šŸ€ Rumor: Mark Gottfried to be fired at the end of this season. BUT, there's the

Calipari also stood up for NC State coach Mark Gottfried, who was fired Thursday after three consecutive blowout losses. Gottfried, who has an overall record of 122-83 at NC State and had three years of base salary worth an estimated $2.28 million left on his deal, will be allowed to finish out the 2016-17 season with the Wolfpack, including the ACC tournament.

"We're firing coaches in midseason. Are you s----ing me? We're firing coaches in midseason," Calipari said. "You know what I'm putting in my contract? You can fire me at midseason, but you're going to have to pay me $3 million. Oh, you'll let me stay now, won't you. ... Every coach in the country, put it in your contract!

"What if Mark Gottfried goes on a run at the end and gets to the NCAA tournament, which he was in four out of five years? Two Sweet 16s, which is not done at NC State. What happens if he now -- if he goes and wins and gets another team [in]? He had good players but they're young, they're like my team. It's hard to do this with young guys."

Makes me wonder why Cal keeps trying to make a living himself with one and done players. It is hard to turn any roster 7 and 8 deep every season and try again with 17 and 18-year-old kids. Basketball isn't football in the way of physical maturity, but there's also no substitute for toughness and experience either. At least Kansas, NC, Duke, Michigan State and teams of that ilk try to keep the freshman ratio to a more reasonable percentage. Come on Cal, less is more, just say it?

It's not that hard to make a living this way when the best of the best come his way. They know that he'll get them in the draft. If the rule was changed in college football, we'd be seeing somewhat similar results in Tuscaloosa, Columbus, Ann Arbor, and in LA.

OK, you made me rethink that just a little. I was using, make a living, loosely. It's really hard to win these NCs with so many freshmen. I do believe I would think long and hard on getting a few more talented long term guys in the program. The problem for the Wildcats may be that these guys who go there may feel extra pressure to declare after the first year. I almost get the sense if they stick around their sophomore year they consider themselves failures.

Cal said his job is to prepare them for the NBA and that was first and foremost. He could be bringing a lot of these early exits on himself by making that the big emphasis. Some of these guys had no business leaving after their freshman year, they weren't all projected lottery picks, but went anyway. Hey, Cal might be telling the truth and winning NCs don't keep him awake at night and like you mentioned, his job does pay well.
