📡 Rose Bowl flees California for Texas...

Pasadena has always owned the Rose Bowl name. They created it to help fund their parade. The only reason it was played in North Carolina in 1942 was due to the ban on large gatherings on the West Coast after Pearl Harbor. It was originally fully cancelled but Duke wanted to play so they offered their own stadium for the game. Gotta admit that making a change like that and getting everyone there in 2 weeks (game was cancelled on 12/15, Duke offered the next day, and they played it 1/1) especially due to having to use rail was a miracle.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says Irish may not play in College Football Playoff if families can't attend - CBSSports.com

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has a slight problem if his team earns a berth in the Grandaddy of them All. Local and regional COVID-19 regulations prevent the Rose Bowl from having fans in attendance, including friends and families of players and coaches. Kelly wants no part of the game if families can't be there.

"If not sure if we'll play in the playoffs if parents can't be there," he said in his Friday press conference prior to the ACC Championship Game. "Why can't it be the Rose Bowl in Las Vegas? Why can't it be the Rose Bowl in another town? Where's the flexibility? The one thing these kids have been is incredibly flexible."

Kelly went on to criticize the tradition associated with the game.

"We're worshipping the ashes of tradition," he said. "They're not thinking about the student-athlete, and that's the issue."

Not a Kelly fan but gotta agree with him on this. If it was the Sugar or another southern bowl my opinion would be the same. Too many venues available that will allow at least limited fans. Personally I think the CFP should be separate from the Bowls anyway. I enjoy the football but couldn’t give 2 shits about the stodgy “ traditions” of pretension attached to the bowls
