🏈 Rod Woodson

Can anybody offer any real feedback about him leaving? The al.com take on the issue seems to indicate that he wasn't following team rules.

It wasn't just one thing with Woodson... the kid just couldn't stay on track. Barring an unforeseen pardon, a couple others will soon be following. The margin or error ain't what it used to be. Be good, or be gone.

As for 'on the field' type stuff... Saban finally has the team stocked, and there is a brand spanking new crystal football in the football complex right now... that kinda raises the bar for everyone on the team. If a player, or player(s), are just there for the ride along, they too will be *cough* encouraged to move along. This ain't 2007 anymore.

FLASH FORWARD @20 YEARS......

"Uncle Rod......what's that big flashy ring your wearing?"
"Well back in 2009 i played football @ Alabama son, that there is a National Championship ring."
"But didn't they win that the next year too?"
".....ummmm yeah kiddo they sure did."
"Then how come you don't have 2 of them Unlce Rod"
"Well I......ummmmmmm.......ummmmmmmm......."

I hate it for the kid, but Coach has a little saying that i've adopted as one of my peronal motto's.
"Freedom of choice does not equal freedom of consequence."
I've heard him say it in the media several times. And he's 100% right.
This applies to EVERYTHING. not just football, but LIFE in general. (which is why i admire that man so much, not just as a football coach but as a teacher of LIFE.) And the guys on the team who ain't getting the message will come to regret it soon enough. You do the things they ask of you while your there, or they will find some one who will. A UA Scholly is not a right, it's a PRIVALIGE. and some of these kids better pick up on that quick or they'll be attending school @ Jacksonville State next year.
From day one these guys are told and KNOW what is expected of them. it aint a damn mystery. THEY KNOW. Academically, Physycally, and otherwise. ON & Off the field.
And i don't care how many stars you have beside your name b4 ya got to campus.....as of yesterday....those 4 or 5 stars go to ZERO stars. No one is irriplacable.

Well said.

should I speak up and say I've launched bottle rockets from my car while driving :)

that being said, sometimes as kids people do "stupid" things that they might think are funny at the time - it's a bigger problem when you are an adult doing these stupid things, but at 17-20 years of age I tend to give kids the benefit of the doubt. Certainly you've (^^) done similar things before.

that being said, this happening in 2007 or 2008 could have resulted in a different outcome than 2010. I don't know what Woodson did, nor do I really care at the end of the day, as he was getting a pretty good opportunity to gain a college education at a pretty good school, get to play for a pretty good coach, and if done correctly he might have made it to the NFL - my guess is that his chances at making the NFL got a bit harder as I suspect he will go to a lesser school, not get the focus he could have received while at Bama. Just a bad decision combined with horrible timing... I think the big kicker in life is timing of the decisions we make.

Whats this crap ppl r saying that he was poppin fireworks in a damn dorm? I mean really? What can be running through ur head to do crap like that.

I would have to guess it was more than firecrackers in a dorm, b/c if that was all of it, I don't think he would have been "encouraged" to leave the team. I think he would have been punished, but he would have stayed.

I understand the need for discipline, but I also think that to a certain degree we have to remember that we are talking about college kids here. How many of us can say we were saints while we were in college? I know I wasn't.

I wasn't one either but if emptying a dorm out at all hours of the night to smoke alarms and firefighters being summoned to the premises then tough luck and stupid move on his part. When I was coaching, we were at a passing camp there. Some kid thought it would be cool to pull the fire alarm at 3 am. Fire trucks came, the dorm was evacuated, fingers were pointed and his azz was hauled off to jail.

I sure had my fair share of fun. Bill Clinton was President the whole time I was at Alabama, and people always gave him a hard time for being a "womanizer". Meanwhile, I was wondering why that was such a crime :D ?

I guess Rod just had too many little or minor things build up, probably had some grade issues, and finally it was just better to let him go on to another place. You have to "buy in" to what Coach Saban is building, and you show your mettle in your actions, not just your words.
