šŸˆ Reports started breaking in the last 24 about Nebraska scheduling UTC to replace Wisconsin. The B1G? "Nope."

Can't blame them for trying. I guess that move to the Big10 is not as appealing to the 'Huskers as it once was.

Would be nice of this somehow leads to Nebraska going back to the Big 12, and Missouri replacing them in the Big Ten. Then the SEC could replace Mizzou with literally anyone, and I'd be happier.

Are any of you guys surprised at how long Nebraska has been down. I know I do not visit their boards often but they seem to have accepted it. Maybe not but I do not hear much about their mediocrity.

They were certainly a power in football as far back as I can remember until Coach Osborn left in 1998. You expect teams to "cycle" somewhat as it seems most of the blue bloods of college football have done but you don't expect a team like NU to be down for this long. It really used to be such a regional power that it could cherry pick some of the very best players in that part of the country and they used to be advantaged by a very strong "walk on" program as well.

Yeah all if this is why I am curious why we are not hearing more of an uproar from the fanbase. Pretty sure the bama fanbase would be very vocal.

Last relevant in the late 90’s? Reminds me of something I saw last week when I went to early vote. A new Silverado with a 1998 National Champions UT license plate. Yep, you can still pay an extra $50 annually to have that as your license plate. 22 years later...

@NickelDoubleDog you're there right? What's the vibe around Lincoln?

It's weird. I am probably in the smaller minority - I don't hate the Big Ten, don't think there is a conspiracy to get Nebraska. I also think it's a weird fit. Nebraska isn't as good a school as most of the Big Ten schools, and culturally is different. I lived in another Big Ten state as my wife coached college athletics at a Big ten university, so I think I have a pretty good perspective to contrast it vs. the old Big 8 or Big 12.

As far as Nebraska's struggles, fans think Frost is great. He hasn't done it yet. I think he's a great offensive mind, but his staff isn't as good as you need to hunt Ohio St, Michigan, Wisconsin.

Nebraska's struggles have been because they hired poorly and had bad leadership. Tom Osborne was a lousy AD and his influence on the program was very negative when Nebraska hired coaches who weren't Nebraska guys. When you fire so many coaches, you lose so many recruiting classes, and when you change systems, you never have enough good players to fit your system.

I think Solich was an average coach who inherited a dynasty in 1998 and 5 years later he turned it into a .500 program that was getting blown out regularly by Big 12 opponents. Fun fact - in the MAC he's never won a conference title while at Ohio, while about 12 different up and coming coaches have come into the MAC, won the conference, and then got hired away to a P5 coaching gig. Solich is consistent but not a top coach.
