The field was sloppy and Bama couldn't mount much offense, but the Tide D totally smothered the Tigers.

It took Alan McElroy's field goal to provide the winning margin, and keep Bama on the road to the national title.

Yep, I remember that game. I was a freshman at LSU and boy was it cold! Interesting year for the Tigers--they also hosted #1 USC in the third game of the season and lost 17-12 in a tight game with some controversial calls--Charles White, Marcus Allen, Ronnie Lott, Anthony Munoz were all on that USC Roster.

Those two games, although losses to the two best teams in the country that year, really taught me what college football was all about...seeing as I grew up with a Tulane grad for a Dad, I really didn't know til that season!
