So how do high school football recruits narrow down their college choices these days? Flush them down the toilet, literally.

That's what Charlotte Catholic High (N.C.) four-star running back Elijah Wood did with recruiting letters mailed to him from the University of Alabama, and he captured the act on video then posted it on the web for Nick Saban and the rest of the world to see.

If you are wondering why Wood would thumb his nose at Saban and his powerhouse program in Tuscaloosa, all you have to do is look at Notre Dame's current list of commitments for the 2014 class. You will see Elijah Hood's name towards the top and just next to it says, "committed April 28, 2013."

Apparently, like the rest of the Fighting Irish faithful, Hood has a sour taste in his mouth leftover from the humiliating 42-14 loss his future team suffered at the hands of the Crimson Tide in the BCS National Championship game in January. Kelly probably likes the young man's premature loyalty to the program, but he'll be sure to remind him why you don't disrespect anyone or any team in such a public manner.
How does Kelly go about such a reminder? Grab the film from his team's game on January 7, 2013, then press play. Repeat if necessary.

Kids obviously full of class... or at least full of something.

I've seen this kid play and he's good but I'm surprised we're really pursuing him... Plus, that school is full of snobs and arrogant SOB's, even the ones there on "scholarship"... Glad he's going to ND myself.

I have no problem if a high school student athlete does not like or want to consider Alabama but what he did shows a total lack of class. The fact of the matter is...we do not need or want you representing the ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE!

Just to put things in perspective. I'll start with a couple of questions, then state a fact.

I wonder when he got that letter? Is it an invitation to camp? Is it a general purpose letter?

One thing is for certain. It's not an offer.

It would be interesting to see where he falls on the board. If he hasn't received a verbal offer? In my opinion that probably takes him out of the top five. I know he's no higher than fourth.

I hope he gets an opportunity to meet the guys from Tuscaloosa one day on the field. He can then stand there with that dumbfounded look on his face, like Holtz and the leprechaun faithful had on theirs last year.

Out of curiosity I ventured over to a ND board I had read before the BCSNC.

This is great for a couple reasons. One, it is nice to see someone who is apparently sticking to their commitment and not even entertaining discussions with other schools. Second, his focus on academics and the graduation rate. This is a young man who appears to have his priorities straight and wants to make a lasting difference in areas outside of football.

But it's early, at the rate this offseason is moving, he will be decommited next week.

Almost- NEVER- does a player

with this level of Im-Maturity

do what they "Think" they'll do.

Ususally- when i see stuff like this

I get pissed and then I remember

they're kids.

and like a fishin buddy told me

when i asked him about his new Grandson.

He said " I ain't having anything to do with him

until he can wipe his own butt".

Some people -apparently " learn quicker

than others..............................

Did he flush the ND offer down the toilet? I would wipe with it first, then flush it. Put it to its use.

There are some quotes by his dad around the 'net right now about Elijah seeing something at Notre Dame that scared him and he won't even talk to his parents about what he saw. Who knows?

It was a theory, only for a moment mind you, that he tried to flush the ND offer. However, since ND is at the center of the universe, perhaps the water doesn't swirl in the toilet? That might scare me a bit.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that had a catholic priest joke pop into their head reading this...

If we ever get the opportunity to meet ND again while he's playing, I hope one of our linemen will drill him in the backfield, get off him and politely say, "Roll Tide" as they walk away.
