Where was he mentally?

He didn't play like he was expected to for an All-SEC safety!!!

He dropped several interceptions, missed several tackles, and horse-collared a guy that luckily wasn't called!!!

I know he puts the team before his own stats, but with so many Big wigs in the house, he didn't help his stock at the next level!!!

Your question is "where was he mentally?"

It's just an assumption, but based on observation and breaking down a few things, that he was concerned about covering some weaknesses we may have been dealing with with the influx of new guys.

One example of that.

On one of the few blitz packages we sent Javy and that left Marquis in man coverage against Jacoby Ford. We were in a cover 2 and Harper read the blitz and hit Ford as he cut inside of Fanney playing his Jack role as he hit the seem. Rashad was caught out of position because he was playing so far outside and when Ford took it across the middle he was gone.

This isn't the first time this has happened. In practices and in past games Rashad has been caught out of position by over playing routes and not maintaining his role/lanes there in the middle.

Horse collar tackle? I think you may have too strict of a definition of what it entails. I don't see that tackle as something that is going to be flagged. Heck, if Thomas Ritter's crew didn't call it, I doubt another crew would either. (Of course, Penn Wagers crew will probably step up and make the exception on this unless they are too busy trying to figure out how they allow 12 defenders on the field)

Now, the missed INT's had me flashing back to Freddie Roach.

Ok TP, great explanation but saying that it's not a horse collar b/c of Thomas Ritter, that's a joke.

Do you remember who was officiating the LSU game last year?

Oh yeah, Mr. Overturn Review himself.

I'm surprised he didn't overturn any this game.

He is an SEC official so I guess he didn't want the ACC to win, lol!!!

No, I'm saying most officials wouldn't call that a horse collar and if any of them would it would have been Ritter or his crew.

Ritter is the head ref, not the review official unless I'm terribly mistaken. It's not his call to overturn.

The SEC crews were shown video's of what a horse collar tackle is. The way it was explained to me is a defender in pursuit and he grabs the back of the jersey/collar and pulls him down from behind.

While he did miss a couple of picks and tackles, I am not down on Jignson @ all. He stayed @ home when he needed to and seemed to be in the right place most of the time.

RTR

We were fortunate that other guys stepped up big for us, but Rashad has to play better!!!

We don't want a repeat effort of Castille from a year ago.

Ok TP forget the horse collar, I thought the officials were working together both on the field and in the booth?

If the call is over-turned, it's the replay official in the booth that makes that call. The head ref on the field is just listening for his decision, basically. Hell, you see them talking it's probably about dinner...

I wouldn't mind, at all, for it to be a situation where the head ref on the field is looking at the same footage as the guy in the booth. But, that would likely just make those reviews last longer than they already do.

Different subject, but there needs to be a time limit set on those reviews and if they haven't decided in say, 1 minute, the play stands as called.

Not positive but I think the replay ref. for this game was ACC ref. As for horse collar its if a player hands grabs the inside of the back of shoulder pad and makes the tackle but like I said not positive

I think what I am getting is that Rashad doesn't have total faith in Marquis and Javy back there. Maybe he will gain confidence over the next 2 weeks.

It wasn't a horse collar. We recorded it on dvr and I looked at it yesterday. I thought it was a horse collar at first but he didn't grab the neck of his jersey. He grabbed the jersey right behind the right side of the shoulder pads just below the neck. It was close but not a horse collar.

This is my pledge to all people Bama: I will never blame a loss on a bad call by an official.
Not that we lost, but you know what I mean.

Will you blame several series of bad calls on officials?

Don't get me started on this one!!!

It probably wasn't Rashad's best game, but we can still expect him to be a playmaker for us this year. Even though he has the most experience in the secondary. I imagine he was a little rusty and jittery in the first game and being on the big stage.

I will, and can, because it has happened. In fact, one of those refs is still in the league; Penn Wagers.

However, I will do that ONLY if that call does mean the difference in the game. And, with Penn, it was.

wow, he missed a couple (NOT ALOT) of tackles and he batted away 2 passes instead of picking them. not a great game, but saying 'where was his head at' because of that? thats a little much i would say. both should-be picks were read perfectly by Rashad and he just dropped it, cant pick em all off but i would venture to say that more times than not this season he will snag those. besides play where he came out of nowhere on the sideline and nearly picked it off and the ref called PI on Kareem. that was just bad, Kelly pushed off of Jackson yet they called interference on him. smh.

With all due respect to you Birdman, I love Rashad, but he was not on his A game. Go back and watch the game again (on ESPN360.com) and you will see him constantly pounding his fist in frustration!!! You think he was just doing that to keep his hands loose?
