Dabo speaks about KaeperDick's protest:

Dabo Swinney cites MLK, Bible in 'politically incorrect' stance on Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protest

Couldn't find it on yiutube, but here's a Facebook video of it:

Here it is on YouTube. The whole segment, in fact.

There's a lot to admire about Swinney, as a person, coach, and even in his remarks on this issue. I think his heart is in the right place. However he's off the mark a bit in criticizing these protests. At the very least, he failed to explain exactly how and why these protests were wrong and more harmful than helpful. Ironically, he goes on and on highlighting how great MLK Jr was ... despite being oblivious to the extent of MLK Jr's activism and views. This is common among the general public, which often sanitizes and dilutes the messages of martyrs.

Listen closely to Swinney's criticism of these protests ........... and then read these excerpts from one of MLK Jr's famous writings, Letter From Birmingham Jail:

Over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to ā€œorderā€ than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: ā€œI agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct actionā€; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a ā€œmore convenient season.ā€

MLK Jr also says:

I must confess that I am not afraid of the word ā€œtension.ā€ I have earnestly opposed violent tension, but there is a type of constructive, nonviolent tension which is necessary for growth. Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind of tension in society that will help men rise from the dark depths of prejudice and racism to the majestic heights of understanding and brotherhood. The purpose of our direct action program is to create a situation so crisis packed that it will inevitably open the door to negotiation.

Seriously, Swinney couldn't have used a worse person to support his stance.

Maybe you should run for president musso. Apparently you know what everyone is trying to say and what is right with everything. Maybe you should play the lottery as well since you are able to put everything into context and know everything.

I'll respond to any assertions or questions, if you have any. Not so much speculation...

You have the right to stand, or not, during the National Anthem.
You have the right to criticize those who stand, or don't, during the National Anthem.
You have the right to criticize those who criticize those who stand, or don't, during the National Anthem.
You have the right to criticize those who criticize the critics of those standing, or not, during the National Anthem.

This thread has gone beyond these four levels and it's somewhere between the seventh and ninth level of thread hell.

Still proud of Quinton Dial.

RTR,

Tim

Kaepernick is rich dude, with a new activist girlfriend, who wants to get laid by impressing her with this BS. He calls the cops pigs, until he needs them, then they are no longer pigs.

It would be like if the Waltons were to start fighting for the 15 dollar minimum wage, but then charge their employees 8 dollars an hour to wear the uniform.

It was more of a knock on your overall know everything attitude. You filtering through Dabo's speech and cherry picking a rebuttle has Capt. Hindsight written all over it. I like how you said what he should have said and where his comments fall short, as if you're a professor and have the right answer in your key. You have just labeled yourself as a joke.

Never claimed or remotely hinted that I know everything. Just defending those who engage in peaceful protest.

Uh, I simply noted what I found to be problematic. Obviously I didn't find everything he said problematic. You say "cherry picking" and I say "identifying problems with his argument."

You have just labeled yourself as a joke.

Yet another ad hominem. Siiiiigh ...

Taking ItTakesEleven's cue, I'll bow out in this thread after leaving you guys with what I thought was a good discussion of the issue and a movement that remains fluid and still in its infancy.
