Does anyone know when these go on sale and the best method (outside StubHub) to get them at face value?

Face value is only going to come from TidePride or if you have a friend willing to sell tickets at cost.

There's no way there will be individual tickets remaining for this game like a couple of smaller teams leave now-a-day.

It's Michigan. You're going to have to "pony up" some cash.
