Alabama is expected to hire longtime NFL assistant Karl Dunbar as its defensive line coach, sources told AL.com.

The Tide's previous defensive line coach, Bo Davis, resigned Friday.

The 48-year old Dunbar has a longstanding relationship with Alabama coach Nick Saban.

A former standout defensive lineman at LSU, Dunbar was LSU's strength and conditioning coach under Saban from 2001-02 and later returned as the Tigers' defensive line coach in 2005 under Les Miles.

Dunbar has worked in the NFL since 2006.

He was the Minnesota Vikings' defensive line coach from 2006-11, the New York Jets' defensive line coach from 2012-14 and the Buffalo Bills' defensive line coach last season.

The Bills fired Dunbar in March.

Bills D-Line regressed with him as coach IMO... that is my issue... Mario Williams being lazy as hell is part of the issue but still.

I think the biggest problem coaches have staying in the pro game is having to put up with the bitchy prima donnas that get paid about 10-15 times what you do in a year, or they make more than you do in a single game!
