šŸˆ Possible new OC If/or when Lane leaves?

Former Maryland OC Mike Locksley took big pay cut to join Alabama staff

Just a thought....So if the former Maryland OC, lands at Alabama as a Offensive analyst making $45K, after making $890K last season, could he be an OC in training?

Just food for thought...

so thoughts?

I hope not. He has not produced as a HC, OC, and has no notable success as a position coach.

That said, he is an excellent recruiter, which is one thing CNS truly appreciates.

As far as the pay, he wasn't retained by the Terps new HC and "had one year left on a three-year deal signed in 2014 that reportedly paid at least $600,000 annually, though it's unclear." So, 645k to work a couple years with CNS and try to work into an on field role at Bama or elsewhere isn't too bad.

I don't think he makes the $600k from Maryland AND the $45k from Alabama. Like Kiffin, his Alabama pay is deducted from the amount owed by the previous school. So he would still make $600k, but Maryland would only have to pay $555k of that amount.

It's unclear if he wasn't retained (fired) by the new Maryland staff or if he chose not to accept the job. If he chose not to stay, it means he quit and gets nothing.

All that being said, I don't see him as the type or caliber of OC that Alabama wants/needs. He really doesn't have any coaching success, yet.

Which brings me to Lane Kiffin. Have we ever had a coordinator at Bama that has felt more like a hired gun than this OC? I have no idea why he would be attractive to any major program as a HC. But lots of us are absolutely convinced this is it for him. Me too.

The same was said about Bobby Petrino, and yet ...

Yes, but for different reasons. Petrino couldn't keep hot chicks off his Harley. His resume said he could coach. He can be thankful that Lousiville had a need and he had history, otherwise, he would have had to do penance in Western Kentucky much longer.
