Didn't want to totally divert another thread. Much was being made about Ro, more than likely, going pro after this year. Jseakin brought up a good point about the new NFL salary cap that will cut sign on bonuses or something to that extent. I'm like him, I know nothing about it, other than the fact that it will cut highly picked rookies out of millions in the future.

Having said that. What do you think of Julio or Mark Ingram going pro at this point? With Julio having a "sophomore slump" arguments could be made on why to stay, but if the salary caps are indeed coming, then the argument could be made on why to leave. If Ingram wins the Heisman and Bama wins MNC #13.....what else would he have to prove? NFL requires you to have been out of high school 2 years before going pro. Both guys fit the criteria. I know we want to keep these guys another couple of years, but it is a possibility.

Ro would certainly be a first rounder. Ingram likely, depending upon there being a need for a bruiser of a back. Julio, as respected as he is, still has something to prove. IMO

Ro should go and Ingram too, and I think they will. Julio is another story.

Julio needs to get a whole lot better with seperation from press coverage, route running and catching the ball before he is a high first round pick for anyone. I think pro scouts are unimpressed with his development thus far. Julio seems to rely on his big body and amazing strength to simply box defenders out when going for the ball and his shake move to get off press is really, really bad. He won't get away with that at all in the pros, they will abuse him unless he gets much, much better with his technique at the next level. If Julio improves from this year to next like he did from last year to this--he will be lucky to be a first day pick, much less first round.

BTW I hope he does and I hope he goes in the top 5

There are a lot of issues with the whole "Rookie Salary Cap" and I'm thinking it's now going to be 2012 if and when it goes into effect (TerryP could most likely give more details on that). Still, you are only defined as a rookie for one year and the contracts are multi-year so it really becomes a semantic argument in the end. That being said, I can't blame Ro if he feels that it is in his best interest to go. I would love to see him and Hightower play together for an entire year

I'm very excited about seeing Ingram and Richardson playing together next year. If we could get Grant to stay, I'd be interested to see a Wildcat formation with Grant under center and Ingram and Richardson in the back field.

I would be more excited seeing Blake Sims back there with Ingram and Richardson seeing as he has QB experience and a good arm on top of being able to run like crazy. Or even BJ Scott for that matter.

Jseakin...don't put the cart before the horse. Sims might be the next coming of Joe Willie, but he still has to get past AJ to get the job. A couple years within the system and physically maturing (he has already added 30 lbs since setting foot on campus) will make it hard on Sims to step right in and take the starting role from McArron as a True or RS freshman IMO.

I was refferring to Blake Sims not Phillip Sims. Both are QB but Blake is more of an athlete who happens to play QB where as Phillip is the #2 pro style QB in the country.

This guy not this guy

I was thinking about the conditions that would have to be present in order to keep McClain around another year, but I guess there just isn't anything that Bama could do to bring him back. Man, what a loss that will be. Don't forget, Cody leaves too. Another couple guys on that DL will be lost as well.

But, in his place, Hightower will probably prove to be even better.

As for Ingram and Julio, they both will have to be back next year. Ingram's done enough, but he's a true sophomore, so he will have to be back. Jones hasn't done enough to get him drafted on the first day, although tremendous potential exists. He's fast, he's strong, he's totally capable, but he's dropped a lot of balls this year, and has not gained enough separation from defenders, as previously mentioned. None of that will work in the NFL.
