🏀 Pollard commits to Bama...

He joins an impressive group in this light...

Devonta Pollard becomes the 10th McDonald’s All-American to become a member of the Alabama basketball program.

Previous McDonald's honorees were JaMychal Green (2008), Richard Hendrix (2005), Maurice Williams (2001), Gerald Wallace (2000), Jamal Faulkner (1989 transfer from Arizona State), James Robinson (1989), Buck Johnson (1982), Bobby Lee Hurt (1981) and Ennis Whatley (1981).

I see what you mean about today being a busy day.

SEC meetings, golf, Pollard, softball, and us talking about who the better commentators are for football/softball :)

From Cecil Hurt - 5 top 50 players choose an SEC school this year, 4 to Kentucky and Pollard to Bama.

MORE PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND HOW AWESOME THIS IS.:icon_rambo:

PsychoJoe and I were talking a little last night around suppertime about Pollard. The one thing I mentioned to him was I hadn't been following Pollard as closely as I normally would.

I know why! Alabama has had too many damn teams in post season play—#winning...geez, can they give us fans a break!!!!

:icon_eek: Can't say I'm surprised Cal is doing well recruiting, but D.A.M.N.!

Cal lost 7 of his first 8 players, and of the others there wasn't anything special. He offers instant PT and the likelihood of one and done with a very high profile program. Billy Gilispie couldn't handle it, but Cal has it down

Pollard is a fantastic athlete, but it will be interesting to see how he fits in. At 6'8" and 195 he figures to be great in the open court, but I cringe a little when I think about him having to defend in the low post against some of those bulldozer type power forwards in the SEC. Stats wise he hasn't been a prolific three point shooter, but at 35% over his senior year, at the least he will have to be guarded on the perimeter. One of the more impressive aspects of his game to me was his ability to get to the foul line. He brings speed and jumping ability to us. I see him as being a three-four combo guy who not only gives us another very capable body, but brings some offensive expolosiveness to us.

We do need the offense but I see this being more of an upgrade to the defensive side. Blocking shots is probably what I'm most excited about, having that size in the middle along with Eng. and the "MOOSE" with open up shots outside the ark for Lacey, Randolph, and Releford.

There's no doubt that he will contribute some blocked shots, but we weren't lacking in that area last year. The sheer height of Gouye and Engstrom and Jacobs long arms already make us threats to those coming inside.

We will see how he matches up at the D-1 level, but my fondest hope is that he will be able to create his own shot when our set offense gets stymied late in the shot clock. He shows a pretty good handle for an inside player.

Not that this has anything to do with the hardwood.

From the WTF department.

I gotta admit that I've never watched a collegiate softball game in my life, but for whatever reason last night I watched the game and I thought it was great (and exciting). It was spectacular when that girl hit that HR. I'll be watching the rest of the tourney.
