ā€œI don’t think this is ever going to end at Auburn,ā€ Finebaum said. ā€œI’ve got respect for Gus Malzahn. I think Gus Malzahn ought to call (agent) Jimmy Sexton and say, ā€˜Jimmy, get me out of here. Get me a new job. Find me one, there are plenty of openings right now. There’s one at Florida State. There may be one in the SEC West, and let’s figure out a way to do this on a high caliber fashion with class and let’s move on. I’m not saying that in a negative way, I’m saying no matter what Gus Malzahn does, I don’t think it’s going to be enough for the Auburn family.ā€

Finebaum recalled how Auburn beat two No. 1 teams, Georgia and Auburn, two years ago over a 14-day period, and, ā€œit wasn’t enough.ā€

ā€œLast year it was a struggle and you can pick your poison if that game against Oregon had gone differently, if the game Saturday had a couple of more plays, here we have Gus Malzahn coaching for his coaching life,ā€ Finebaum said. ā€œI don’t know if he really is or not, but what I heard Saturday, guys you hear the same thing, that fans decided to pile on after the (Joey) Gatewood (transfer) situation.ā€

Finebaum concluded that despite the big contract, the criticism is tiresome after a while, and it may be time to look for a fresh start.

And can get distracting..... but Gus needs to stay....he is good for AU....
And pretty dang good ...... well kinda

The football fans from the state of Alabama expect to win every year, no matter what. Gus is doing as well as can be expected on the Plains and its not good enough for the Tiger faithful. I hate to admit it but UGA, UF, LSU and Bama is a tough row to hoe. USCw may have an opening soon.

Or Arkansas....sure need something up there....

At this point you just about have to rule out the Hogs and Guz every coming to terms since he had two chances to take that spot in these last 5-7 years. In fact I believe he may have used them to get Mo MONEY from YellaFella U. I have always hoped Guz would flat out fail but he has avoided that by hiring (somebody at AU did) hire good defensive CO's that saved his azz (Will and Kevin) from a complete meltdown like Gene.

Not surprisingly, a lot of the barners still believe that they are going to go to the playoffs. So much would have to happen, and that is putting it mildly. Aside form the barn winning out (which isn't likely) so much other voodoo devil magic would have to happen and all of it would have to break auburn's way. Which of course, knowing them, that isn't a stretch. But, this time, WAY too much crazy shit would have to fall their way. But, say for a second that that does happen...they win out, and the regular season ends on some wild voodoo and they slip into the playoffs with 2 losses...they are stuck with that fuck up FOR LIFE! If they thought that the raise and contract extension that he got in 2017 was insane...shit...the one he would get for making the playoffs would make that one look like a bargain. It would be 2034 before that buyout would go down, LOL.

What a weird situation the barn is in. The bus wins just enough to keep from getting fired, but also loses enough to piss off a pretty significant portion of the fan base. There is a faction within the fan base who love him and are completely and totally fine just living off of 2013, apparently from now until he retires. I like the way that faction thinks. Just be happy with 2013 (and parts of 2017) and keep the fool for life, LOL. Their last four head coaches, Dye, Bowden, Tubberville, and Chizik all bottomed out to the point that there was no question that a change had to be made. The bus however, has not. The closest he came was a 7-6 season in 2015. But even that wasn't as bad as the end of the previous 4 head coaches' tenures. So, there is really nothing for them to hang their hat on, as for making a case for firing him. Personally, I felt like they pulled the trigger way too soon on poor cheese whiz. I know what did it. It was the 49-0 bludgeoning in the 2012 IB. But still, the dude had just won a national title 2 years prior. The faction that want him gone are hoping that Florida State tries to hire him or Stoops goes to FSU and Kentucky does for them what they did for us after the 1989 season and takes a coach off their hands.

I would have sworn that there would be no way in hell Arkansas would fire Morris after just 2 seasons, but seeing as how Taggart didn't even see the end of his second season at FSU, it's not outside the realm of possibility that Arkansas may just follow suit. If that happens, do they make yet another attempt to hire Gus? And if they do, does he take the gig this time?

Unfortunately (for the Barn) I think Gus's ego is too big to take his losses and run off somewhere else, also too big to go back to Arkansas. I think in his mind, he's doing a phenomenal job, and they will have to fire him to get rid of him, which they can't really afford to do... yet. I think the only way he leaves on his own is if one of the big boys comes calling. I don't know that there is anyone that would want him that bad, though.

Well...remember...there are 2 major high profile games to go...win those ...he is probably in p,ayoffs...with some luck elsewhere ....

But...A LOT would have to happen. The season would have to take a crazy dramatic turn. I can't see them beating either us or Georgia. Their offense would have to have a complete overhaul and which would mean Gus turning loose of the play calling. Which won't happen, but even if it did, Dillingham isn't experienced enough to take the reigns on play calling and have the offense completely turned around in less than 2 weeks. While their defense is very good, they can only do so much. The SEC West will have already been decided by the time the IB rolls around. So, there won't be anything on the line for them, other than pride. But, in the unlikely event that they won out, there will already be an SEC team in the playoffs. I can't see them taking 2 SEC teams, with one of them having had 2 losses.

College football is full of strange events....so, I rule Tennessee-and Arkansas out...maybe vandy...but thats it
