šŸˆ OT: This will be awesome (winter storms) if it happens (Attention Gulf Coasters)

Despite all the recommendations and information given in times like this there are so, SO many important things missed.

Why do we not get an explanation on why weather bulletins are always broadcast during the show you're trying to watch? Interrupt a commercial now and then, right? Thank god someone invented the DVR.

How do you explain to a seven month old, Aussie puppy that he can't go outside and run? How do you tell him, "no, I don't want to take you for your daily walk?" They make sure to go to the point of telling people to bring their pets indoors but no one wants to say anything about what to do with indoor pets wanting to go out?

I ran across a fb page that was created for stranded motorist needing help.

Jon Solomon tweeted a sample of a few of the posts:

—"I have a friend stranded on lakeshore exit, she is a diabetic and has no insulin with her, anyone close by that can help her ?"

—"trying to get to Irondale. dog that has epilepsy & has to have seizure medication. Is anyone in Irondale that could break in my house?"

Ugh, reading about the weather in and around Birmingham. Looks like 280 got slammed with ice. We get 1-2 ice storms a year here in Dallas, I stay home when this happens. While I was in India in December, Dallas was shutdown for 5-6 days due to an ice storm that dropped 3-6" of ice, every day it would melt a little, then freeze over each night.

Where you at bamaledge ? I've had to come up to Minneapolis 2-3 weeks a month for the past 4 months. I've seen more snow than I have in my lifetime, outside of our ski trips to Colorado. But the cold temps are taking years off my life.

Mike is speaking the gospel here, y'all be safe. Have lots of fun but be safe. I drive 24 miles to work and we just had a fresh 4 inches of snow on top of 15 inches we already had. This morning when I went to work it was -13 degrees. I went to the bank at 9 AM and it was a whopping -7 degrees.

This shit needs to go away... its more like frozen ass snow... you cant even play in it and the concrete has become like an ice skating rink, already busted my ass twice smh

planomateo A dusting for an hour or so this morning. I suspect the bridges will be opened in an hour or so. My next door neighbor is already getting ready to head into work and he's got a few bridges to go over.

It'll all be gone by 3PM, I suspect.

I glanced at the forecast about 2ish this morning and noticed we'll be back up to 65° Friday, mid 70's for the weekend.

It has been crazy. The little hospital I work at has a house on campus that me and a doctor stayed last night. My wife was stuck out on the roads for 7 hours trying to get home yesterday. She didn't make it. Fortunately she was stranded close to Brookwood Hospital (she and I both used to work there). My buddies went and got her and she spent the night there. Neighbor picked up my kids and they have had a blast playing in the snow. It has been crazy, but everyone I know is safe and that is the most important part.

My folks were stranded at their doctor's office near Lakeshore and 31 last night. They intend to drive it out today to Chelsea. Traffic flow cameras show traffic moving south (east) along 280 right now. We'll see.

Why are so many folks getting stranded?? I heard about people on roads, kids in schools .. I thought yall just got a few inches? We got a few inches last night, didn't have any problems getting to to work today and no schools were cancelled. Is it because you don't have a snow budget? Are the roads really that bad with just a few inches, or do people just genuinely not know how to drive on it?

I actually had no idea how to drive in snow/ice until this winter. This is by far the snowiest and coldest winter I can ever remember in our area (even with the 3-4 feet we got in the Great Blizzard of '96). Also the hottest summer I can remember. Every year, it's like the temperatures and weather just get more and more extreme .. HATE IT.

Its not usually this bad. It was not forecasted to hit this far north. Most people went on their merry ways to work/school as the system shifted to the north. Ice took over the roads and that combined with a LOT of people trying to get home at once put places like Birmingham on lockdown. Bottom line, we're not prepared for something like this.

There really aren't any budgets in the SE that include materials to deal with situations like this. A few inches of snow on top of ice? There's one the main issues down in this area.

The forecast for Birmingham, which they based a lot of the closings upon, was off by 100 miles or so as well. I suspect it was the same in the ATL area...Tim could speak better to that.

Yep, we were forecast north of town for perhaps a dusting and we have a solid 4 inches on top of a layer of ice. There are many hilly roads that received absolutely no pretreat and no plowing/salt/gravel since.
