šŸˆ OT: Student/Faculty org. demanding changes with UA Administration (monies, groups, diversity, etc.)

OK, here you go again. This is just a copy cat from Mizzou. The last I heard is you aren't forced to go to Alabama or any college. The race baiting PC cops need to get a real agenda that doesn't turn off the masses from feeling like they give a damn. This country has so many more issues that are important it just doesn't make sense to see a micro issue gain traction. There is always going to be some extreme views on both sides of an argument. There are so many opportunities that having a college degree gives you over ones that don't. This country is built on opportunities. Make the best of it.

People are not equal. Some have God given talent that others don't have. The great thinkers, musicians, or athletes have a better advantage in life because of their talent. Some others have an advantage because they work harder to achieve. I just can't stand lazy no good groups that end up trying to force their stupid and wasteful time killing ideas on the rest of the world. just my 2 cents.

If you get to college, don't you think you know about race, gender, and sexuality? If not why are you in college?

9. Permanent safe space for students of color in the Ferguson Student Center.
Are you shitting me? Wasn't that whole "separate but equal" thing back in the late 50's and early 60's what brought about integration? Now, 50+ years later, in some form, you want it brought back!!??!!

10. Increase number of black faculty and staff to 10% by the 2017-2018 school year.
I'm sorry, but this shit hits a nerve for me and I can't understand why some people refuse to acknowledge the obvious answer. You can't hire people IF THEY DON'T WANT TO BE THERE! We had a similar bitchfest take place on a smaller scale here in my city and the school system in which I teach. We had some black community leaders start making demands about the hiring practices, etc. I told anyone that would listen. Young people, fresh out of college don't have anything to keep them entertained outside of their job here in 15,000 people city, Alabama. Why come here and work, when you can go to a B'ham or Atlanta that has more to offer. I told them that it was regardless of color!! No young single person wants to come teach here UNLESS they have family ties to this area. I would say that the same thing can be said for UA and faculty and staff members of color. If you have opportunities to teach at a HBCU as opposed to going elsewhere and you are trying to make a difference, you take the job at the HBCU. It is what it is. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

I grew up in an era of separate rest rooms, water fountains, lunch counters, etc. which the pioneers of the civil rights movement went to great lengths to change. Now it seems that some of those who benefitted by these changes want to go back to exclusion. Wow. Insane, just insane.

Let me add this as well to my earlier post. When I graduated UA in December of 93, B'ham City schools came to the Ferguson Center with contracts in hand and were told to hire on the spot! One of my professors gave them my name and they tracked me down, begging to take a job with them! I declined! It wasn't about skin color. You don't grow up in a community with different races and play rec sports together for years and then go to college and practice together, train together, then decline because of race! I declined because of pay and supplemental pay for coaches!! You can't make someone go work where it isn't to their liking. I really wish these liberals would take a flying leap and kiss my ass!!
I read somewhere that the guy at Mizzou that went on the hunger strike. His dad is some CEO of some company and he made $8.4 million last year!!! Anyone feel stupid yet?

I remember those separate water fountains. As kids we used to sneak around and drink from them because we wanted to know if the water was colder or tasted different. The separate bathrooms and water fountains were just a tip of the iceberg type of crap that black people had to go through. Looking at it now, it seems like a paranoid thing to do, but we are 4 generations away from those days. No one today has to experience anything like that. I guess race baiters will always bait.

They would be correct in that his dad made that money.

I was just talking the other day with a friend about how it seems we went from segregation to integration and now rapidly moving back to a voluntary segregated society.

I know that most of the race baiters/PC social justice warriors are idiotic mouth pieces..... but has anyone explained to them the irony in demanding equality for all by giving certain groups exclusive access to certain things?

We need a plague badly.... or maybe we can enact that Purge movie concept.

I still want to rant.....

When something is given away without having to be earned, it's human nature to not care about it as much or to not take care of "it"

Let's say we revert back to segregation and certain groups have their own facilities, bathrooms, water fountains, health care plans, etc.... Those groups aren't going to take care and maintain those "things" and when they see another group that has maintained their "things" it will just start all over again with the "we need, we want, we deserve blah blah blah"

I am so damn sick of this entitled social justice warrior PC era crap. It's infuriating knowing that I bust my ass (except when dicking around on the Internet at work) and there are people who don't do 10% of the work I do or have even attempted to get an education, or given two shits about trying to make a life on their own... and they live better than me and have more free time than me because of handouts and people feeling like they have to walk on eggshells so as not to offend someone or get their company sued because of some things skinned litigious piece of shit.

Doesn't it make sense that the faculty should be representative of the state, as should the student body? In other words, if the state's population is 10% black, the faculty and student body should reflect that (approximately)?

You can't make people teach there if they don't wish to. You can't make other races go into education either. Are we to say a certain % of all black undergrads must now be education majors, journalism, business, pre med, engineering, etc.?

Not necessarily. Let's say there are 250,000 students enrolled at Alabama two and four year schools. African-Americans are about 26 percent of the Great State's population. Everything else held constant (and I'm ignorning a whole bunch of variables like HS graduation rates, etc.), that would mean 65,000 black college students in the state (it's less than that). There are also almost 35,000 students enrolled in historically black two and four year schools in Alabama. Deduct the historically black rolls from the total and that would leave you with a very liberally adjusted 30,000 out of 220,000, or 13.6 percent. It's probably a good bit less than that - however - African-Americans represent 12 percent of student body at the University. Based on that math, there's not an underrepresentation.

Me to,psychojoe that doesn't make much sense at all?

Not if there aren't 10% worth of qualified candidates that want the positions. You can't just stick a minority in a position for the sake of having a minority there for a "quota"... they need the same qualifications as any other professor or staff member.

That's like saying the black population makes up about 25% of Earths population but only 3% of people that have traveled to space are black.... you want to just strap a bunch of unqualified and untrained black folks in rockets and launch them to the moon to make the quota?
