Eleventh-ranked UCLAās early 7-0 lead over No. 2 Oregon could only last so long. After turning the ball over on its first series, the Ducks were going to be forced to punt on its second one. At least thatās what the Bruins thought.
On fourth-and-14 on its own 26, Oregon faked the punt and linebacker Rodney Hardrick sprinted 65 yards to the UCLA 8-yard line, causing Autzen Stadium to erupt. Two plays later, Ducksā running back DeāAnthony Thomas ran the ball in for the score.
The play was insane for two reasons: 1. Because it was gutsy and it worked, and 2. If it hadnāt worked, UCLA would have had prime field position and made Oregon look silly for trying.
