That onside kick play has been around for years. We practiced it in high school many years ago.

And the fact that no fair catch was called is exactly how we were able to recover it. Had he done what this player did that would have ended differently.

No, with our kick against Clemson there was no player in position to make a fair catch, so a fair catch signal would not have impacted our kick. No one was there be interfered with, but in this case he certainly interfered with the attempt to catch the ball.

They were nowhere to catch the ball.. so they can't just fair catch if nobody was there

I also think a newer rule is that you cannot block a player from the return team until the ball has gone 10 yards.
