With Masoli out, the game with JSU this weekend gets more interesting. Ole Miss will have a very good defense and JSU will have a hard time scoring, yet JSU's defense may be custom made to give Ole Miss fits. They have a very athletic DL, big, fast LB's, and a secondary that could play on a lot of D1 teams. If they can overcome the Crowe factor, JSU might just give Ole Miss fits. If they can force Ole Miss into 3rd and long and make them air it out, they will get some turnovers.

I am not saying JSU will beat Ole Miss, but this game sets up well for the Gamecocks to at least be competitive. Depth will probably bite them since Ole Miss has 1/3 more scholarships. If Ole Miss underestimates Jacksonville State, it could get hairy...ask FSU who had to come from behind with less than a minute left in the 4th quarter - and it was really Jack Crowe who cost JSU that game by going for it on 4th down from mid field with a minute and a half left...ofc had JSU gotten the 1st it was ball game, but the defense had been playing well and pinning FSU deep would have been better than giving it to them at the 50.

the only way i could see JSU making it a game with ole miss is if the ole miss quarterback is exceptionally bad. i mean reeeeeally bad.

since masoli is out, who is their QB?

I don't know. Massoli is pretty good. It could mean everything.

I won't change that. My picks are solid as of the day i made them. So i have to kinda have to stick to them. Changing them now would kinda be cheating a bit.

The Gamecocks had one of the best offenses in the Football Championship Subdivision last season, moving the ball well through the air and on the ground. They've had to replace a lot of their skill positions, though running backs Calvin Middleton and Jamal Young both rushed for more than 500 yards last season. The strength of the offense is the offensive line, which returns four starters and the tight end.

T.J. Heath, CB: The junior led the Gamecocks with six interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

The Gamecocks bring back six starters from a defense that was very good against the pass, but just so-so against the run. Cornerback T.J. Heath is one of the best at the FCS level and should be a good test for the mostly untested Ole Miss receivers. JSU may have trouble stopping the run against the Rebels. The Gamecocks struggled against the run last season and Ole Miss should have a huge advantage.

IMO the lack of Masoli won't change the out come 1 bit. JSU will still get drumed by the rebels....Just maybe not so hard as they would have. As for the Score i don't see JSU scoreing anymore points than predicted against the Ol Miss D. Score will be probly be in the neighborhood of Ol Miss 41 - JUS 17.

I am not saying JSU will win, but I think they could make it scary going into the later stages of the game. Even if they are in a position to win, Crowe will screw it up.


Ole Miss is picked to finish 6th in the SECW. JSU is currently ranked 17 in the FCS and probably should be top 10. It might be closer than you think.
