🏈 Ole Miss new mascot choices-- (link)

All this PC bull spit gets on my nerves. I see no reason to move away from the colonel.

But, if they just have to, I think something similar to the old Patriots mascot/helmet design would fit better than anything they had there. At least this would still be a "Rebel"

There was a time when the Washington Redskins were being asked to come up with a new name because "Redskin" was considered racist. That was about 20 years ago, and it just sort of faded away over time. I hope the same thing happens in this case. The Colonel is nothing more than a symbol of the south.

Yeah but the Native American Indian lobby isnt as vocal as the African American lobby that wants every symbol of the old south removed from their line of sight and possibly from history.

I don't see what is so offensive about a mascot patterned after the fried chicken guy...

They should just officially make Col. Sanders their mascot. KFC would probably even sign on as a corporate sponsor. They could keep everything the same way it is now, just refer to Col. Reb as Col. Sanders.

I don't get it. Ole Miss has a mascot, it's called a Rebel. Geez. PC police at it's finest. I went to High School where we were called the "Confederates". Still the team name to this day. Oh well. Go ahead University of Mississipi, bend over and take it.

I don't get it...might as well just change the name as well at this point. I would hate to have to explain to people the reasoning behind our mascot if the reason was "well, we didn't wanna hurt anyone's feelings."

This is nothing more that political correctivness at its finest. All this crap was brought on by the 1960s. This is all the damn 1960s were good for.

all of yall whining and crying about "PC" and "sensitive" bullsh*t, yall realize its the STUDENTS that starting this whole thing about finding a new mascot? its the students choice, get over it.

No, then you'd have all the animal-rights activists out protesting. The only way to truly make the disenfranchised happy is to have a hispanic or black mascot, who also happens to be gay, liberal, a vegan, and votes Democrat.

could be worse. They could be like the Yuma High School Team in Arizona. The Yuma High School criminals. no kidding. danmedest name for i team i ever heard. Aparently got thier name from the school being started in an old prison for boys. as for OM.....whatever. Who cares. its Old Miss. They could change thier name to THE LOOSERS. Would be more appropreaite. & not offend anyone. Out side of the right wing politcal BS....never been a fan of the Pc thing either. a thing is what it is. it is its self. Like this old black electrician i used to work under always said. Boy you was born a craker, you gona die a cracker. Iz born a negro, ima gona die one too. ya aint neba gona be black, & iz aint eba gona be white. So i dont take no offense to that word. i sees thangs as theyz are. a man can always change his life, but he caint eba change what he was born. (this new keyboard driing me nuts. 1/2 the keys dont work. its going back to best buy.

Birdman, I disagree with you on this....to a point. What you're missing is that this IS the typical liberal, tree-hugging mentality at work. Yeah, it's the students that have proposed this, but where do liberals and radicals generally come from? Where is this mentality fostered and nourished? At the university level.

Dude, the same tree-hugging liberals and radicals that were protesting in the 60's are exactly the people running the country today.
