Sources: NCAA formally charges Mississippi with rules violations

The NCAA has formally charged the University of Mississippi with dozens of rules violations in three sports, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports.

The school has received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA enforcement staff alleging roughly 30 violations in football, women’s basketball and track and field, sources told Yahoo. It is unclear at present what the breakdown is in terms of violations by sport. The NCAA does not comment on current, pending or potential investigations.

Hey now, not my title. While I may hate OM, AU, UT, LSU, UGA, Arkie, et al, I do not use the pejorative names for them, like they do for us.

Thank you to whoever fixed it

Unless they uncover some stuff about recent football issues, the timing is the football punishment. The allegations are from the Nutt era for football. Most of the allegations are for Women;s BBall and Track and Field. Depends how much they want to put into this. If they really dig, they can find current football shenanigans.

SID and AD are really trying to spin it. That letter has been there for 3-4 weeks and today it is released about allegations in to "mostly" women's sports and shit that happened during Nutt's time. I doubt that! I recall Saban's first year and the textbook debacle that occurred during Shula's tenure and included 2-3 FB players. Didn't UA report this and hold the players out? NCAA still slapped Saban and UA football with 6 vacated wins!
Meanwhile in Oxford, Tunsil drives "multiple loaner cars, "loans", etc during his 3 years there. His punishment is to sit 7 games and the school and FB program just slides by! NCAA has been digging and they have some shit on Freeze.
Freeze is just hoping he can testify before the NCAA and hope his ignorant ass looking face will be convincing enough for them to say, " he really is a dumb son of a bitch! No way in hell this dumbass was smart enough to pull this off. Case dismissed!"

The nice thing about this (from our perspective) is that NCAA is in the door now (well has been, but you get what I mean). If they want to find plenty of stuff (recent, Freeze related stuff) to nail the football program, they will. The SEC will go to bat for Ole Miss (and they should), but will it make a difference? Who knows. It will really just depend on what kind of message the NCAA wants to send here, IMO. Like I've said before, it's the SEC, we all cheat... but they take it to ridiculous levels, and have really made zero efforts in trying to hide it.

Right now we are the ones that turn Ole Siss into the NCAA. That what the ole siss fans are saying anyway!!

Why did Bo have a 4 game suspension earlier this season...

Rickey, first of all, notice in Forde's article the line, "Multiple SEC coaches and administrators have voiced concerns about Ole Miss to the conference office, sources said." Sort of blows that out of the water.

But, let's set that to the side for a minute.

Officially, we don't know what the deal was with Bo. It's a very safe assumption it had to do with him receiving "illegal benefits" on his visits.

IF that happened at Ole Miss ...
IF Bama/the NCAA suspended Bo due to those benefits because it was reported ...

We have one school reporting what was wrong, why, and suffered the consequences. If Ole Miss is "collateral damage" due to another school following established rules ... who gives a damn if it was Bama reporting? I certainly don't.

I strongly suspect what Forde published is true and strongly believe it wasn't just SEC members. Look at the recruiting forum for evidence of suspicions coming from all angles including those outside the SEC.

Shit! A little patience, maybe? :D (I got caught up watching E3 of The Colony and it took me a minute or two to get back to the thread.) Oh, and wait! Shouldn't it be "whomever?" What's the dependent clause ... oh, I retired from my grammar police position!

Idle thought here that I'll look up later on today ...

How many teams have we seen receive a NOA over the last decade (during this era where people say the NCAA has no bite?)

Off the top of my head ... USC, OSU, UNC, Miami, and Penn State? Did I forget any?

Miami is the outlier due to the crap Johanningmeir was up to and their "penalties" were characterized as light (compared to what most thought would be coming.) But, still, they were sanctioned. The other four? All sanctioned.

So, should we assume that schools receiving the NOA aren't skating with a slap on the wrist?

Going back two posts here where Forde is said to be a Bama beat writer.

This is a snippet from an article written by David Brandt:

Some of the allegations regarding the football program date back to previous coach Houston Nutt, but others involve current coach Hugh Freeze's tenure, a person familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press on Friday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. The person said the Ole Miss football program has already taken some steps — like reducing recruiting official visits — to try to mitigate any punishment from the NCAA.

Yahoo! Sports first reported that Ole Miss was aware of the Notice of Allegations.
By the way, this David Brandt was a beat writer. He used to work for the Clarion Ledger, following ...

...the Ole Miss beat.
