🏈 OJ Smith transferring

with the two new DL guys due in any second *RAY and MATHIS, and OJ's PT for the last 2 years... I predict at worse, a push on this. Now if Dunbar will actually play more than the 1st team throughout the game!!!

OJ actually earned a few meaningful snaps last season, and with the depth or lack there of with returners, surprised to see him go. Especially at this time.

However, it's hard to believe he would have ever been a difference maker with the talent coming in behind him. I thought he had a chance out of HS, but he may have been a little short compared to the direction Saban has gone with the last few DL's. Not quite imposing enough.

Ultimately if he was looking at a legit role next season, he would have stayed. RT66 named Ray and Mathis, and it's likely 1 will have to step up this season. Mathis probably more physically ready but Ray's upside is through the roof. When the roster is finalized though I'd be shocked not to see a grad transfer in the mix... Although I like others would love to see Parks come in ASAP. RTR

Any room for Jarez Parks with two gone (Smith and Jennings)???
I try to keep a running tab on the 85... and after the two (Jennings and Smith) leave the program, I still show the "85" at 86. Wondering if D. Thompson is in real trouble with the Assault charges from Spring Break and he is the last of the "leavings" needed to get to the "85"

The Participation Grid shows that OJ only played in the Western Kentucky (2nd game), not sure he made any significant contribution. (I too, think his shoulder injury his freshman year got him off to a bad start). believe he got into 1 game the year before. Hope he can find a school to get in and get some meaningful PT.

Really?! I thought for sure he got into some big games late in the season... Maybe confusing him with someone else

According to Saban everything is probably fine.... After arrest, Tide safety Deionte Thompson working out with team

For Parks to enter now, one of our other guys is going to have to be a non qualifier. He falls in the 25 number and not the 85 overall.

All are enrolled and in class so for that to happen it'll have to be some weird screw up by the NCAA's Clearinghouse on a kid already taking classes.
It's happened before, but the chances of that happening again? Rare. Pretty damn rare, IMO.

The Crimson Tide reserve made the announcement via Instagram on Wednesday morning. His account is private, but here is the caption he included with his social media decision:

"I want to thank The University Of Alabama for being home to me for the last 3 years," Smith said. "After talking with My family and Coach Saban I have decided to transfer and Open up Recruiting. I want to thank Coach Saban and his whole staff for helping me get better everyday and also I want to thank all of my teammates! I will never forget the bond we have and will always stay in touch!! #RollTide"

I wish him the best after reading this.
