šŸˆ Officiating in CFB needs an overhaul...No reason for every conference to have their own officials...Should have a national officiating base

He’s right on the 1st point it was a TD, second was not targeting. Shoulder on shoulder… yes a big hit, but not targeting.

As for officiating… this year for the SEC was terrible… all round and flat out bush league.
How could anybody see that wasnt a michigan TD....i wasnt for Michigan but it was obvious...and to overturn the call....
And last play of game was targeting...
Crap officials...michigan fans gotta be irate

It was beyond terrible.Crews calling games differently inside their own conference. Games being officiated differently conference to conference.Jason Auten and that "Crew" doing a CFP game had to be some kind of cruel joke on college football fans or some kind of payback. I couldnt believe my eyes.In my 66 years as football being a focal point in my life. And having been an "investor" the last 45 years or so in this great game of ours? I have seen some very strange things happen in outcomes and Point Spreads that make you scratch your head and/or smell a rat. And I mean a LOT of times. Too many to count. But I have never seen a game where I questioned and believed that it was not on the up-and-up MORE than the game in K-Ville this year with Auten and that crew. They should have been investigated and/or fired or suspended immediately. And I mean that. I do know that the biggest factor The SEC considers in their evaluations of their officials is what the Crews Do Not call.....I.E..An infraction of the rules that there is not a flag thrown.
Well, among so many other things,I saw Bryce darn near decapitated twice in the pocket with no flag. And no targeting.I saw bogus PI's. Bogus blocks in the back(Just go back and watch the opening kickoff very slowly).Enough of a Rant. But for Auten to get a CFP game ,again,is unbelievable to me.And of course they clownshowed some of that game.

Which is NCAA basketball.

Does anyone want to argue it's better than football? Maybe because a bad official will affect more than one P5 conference?
NHL literally has crews that people make fun of because of their issues. The league either can't or won't get rid of them either, which shows a National Officiating branch doesn't really benefit anyone unless they remove/replace officials with bad grades. It's hard to grade them though, because if you're a coach or a player who grades an official badly they're just going to hammer you if they ever find out later. Which is why the system is flawed and broken in the first place. There needs to be a subjective body of people that grades/decides these things and that's hard to ask for in a league where everyone has to pay their own way like College Football. If there was full revenue sharing and they could just dip into the money in the big overall pot. Then things would be easier, but with the current situation there's really no way to do this.

I hear you...the bama-tn game and tcu- michigan games were worse 2 officiated games i have ever seen lately ( there were some in cotton bowl in 60s using swc officials...and texas in game....penn state- bama game in 80s...a couple of plays here n there in games vs bama) but this year those games were atrocious...and officials determined outcomes...and wasnt just a play here n there..was during entire game

@bamafan9201 let's assume there is a mandatory press conference for the officiating crew following each game. Would we see improvement?
Not sure that would really bring improvement, but might help a bit, peer review and all. But "pitchfork press"(TM) would be biased after games and likely try to cause more problems than good, so it's hard to say that it would have a long term impact on the officiating as a whole. I think a more studied, and open organization that spent time in the film room and paid them livable wages could make it happen and would be terrific. I'm just not sure how feasible the money/time/logistics of putting it all together and making it not corrupt or problematic.

NHL officials are WAY WAY better than NFL or college football

What's their current wages? haven't researched that, but I'd say the lower the salary, the more likely corruption seeps in.
60-70K. Guys like Doug Show are getting around 2K per game—two a week at times. I think he's in ten conferences. I'm sure there is a difference between conferences and how much they pay.

A little more than twice the median income (US) with free travel and expenses; is that not a livable wage?
I ran into one of my former students last night and asked him what he was doing now. At one time, he was working on his teaching certification and coaching HS soccer. He said he was a football official with the SEC. He was part of a crew that did one of the earlier bowl games. I asked him if he had seen the hit in the TCU/Michigan game and asked how in the Hell did Jason Autrey and his crew get to work it after some of the horrible calls they had this year. He said that wasn’t Autrey’s crew that worked the game, but a mixture of a few crews. He then said that the ā€œtargeting ruleā€ seems to change from year to year to game to game to the point no one knows what is or isn’t targeting. He’s a good one and really tries hard as most do. Dr Steve Marlowe is a white hat in the SEC and is another that tries to get it right.
Back to your point, they do make out pretty well.
