With other schools and collectives dropping serious money into their rosters, $500K to a retired coach should be an issue. Not that we'll ever find out, but I wonder what services exactly this salary yields the University. An additional $500K going toward players and NIL could be useful.

There's ways to play a shell game with the money, but collective money and money for salaries don't come from the same tree. Or forest. The collective money must be independent from the school... if caught funding their own collective, the Alabama would likely face some pretty serious issues.

His duties at Bama will include a number of things, and my understanding is they are not strictly defined or limited. He will help raise money, be used as a consultant for the AD, all coaches (not just football), and others at The University, work as a liaison to the NFL, etc.

As far as ESPN, Saban was already double dipping from them, even when he was the head coach.
