🏈 Nussmeier Leaving to be Michigan OC

I may be thinking too much, but this move does have me wondering a few things. I have heard CNS say that he has no problem with coaches moving up, but does not like for coaches to make lateral moves. ie Jeremy Pruitt left us last year from coaching the secondary to being the DC at FSU. A move up. Curt Cignetti a few years back to a HC job at some tiny school up north. (I don't know if that would be a move up or not). It seems to me that in the 7 years that CNS has been at UA there have been coaches come and go, but the ones that make lateral moves do so because their services are no longer needed at UA. Major Applewhite and Bo Davis come to mind. While I am not in the know on this, from some of the posts Terry made after these guys left, I feel safe in saying that those two guys were essentially relieved of their duties. While everything looked good and the numbers were good for us under Coach Nuss, was there something going on behind the scenes that needed repair? I'm sure if there was, we will find out eventually.

Dang-it Argo....you stole my thunder. We did post at the same time.

i was just thinking about this and something crossed my mind.

him making a lateral move like that makes me wonder that, IF we didn't fight to keep him, maybe Coach Saban is looking to steer towards a hunh-style of offense. as rammerjammer said Coach Saban isn't happy when his assistants make lateral moves so i was just wondering if that has anything to do with it. maybe Coach Saban is looking for an OC with some experience in this style of offense.

The 1st thought that came to mind, Major Applewhite.

The 2nd...New QB, maybe time to tweek the offensive system. We have some gunslingers up and coming with a myriad of weapons at their disposal. Maybe we are adjusting?

Edit: sk33tr and I are on the same page too, LOL! Not sure about HUNH but I know Saban mentioned we need to look at that some more.

Phil Savage suggested Billy Napier (Bama wide receiver coach) and Rick Neuheisel (former UCLA head coach Ravens OC) as possibility.

Anybody heard the ridiculous rumor on Twitter about why Nuss is leaving?

All this talk, and assuming, that Kiffin is going to be the OC is very pre-mature. The funny thing is, some of it is coming from the media, not just fans. I would think it is much more likely to be someone like Napier or Mike Groh than Kiffin. Kiffin makes for a great story and lots of clicks though I guess...

I think Kiffin is a real possibility. Saban really likes him, he's a great recruiter, and Saban and him are good friends
