This may be something that's been addressed before but why does Saban seem to go away from the traditional numbering (i.e. WR's having single #'s or 80's, DL running in the 90's)? Doesn't bother me but just curious.

Sometimes recruits get to pick their number. If their favorite number is taken, they may say "give me anything" or a number could be assigned by the team manager. Saban doesn't usually doesn't get involved in number assignment. If there's a number duplication on special teams, they may look at all the possibilities and just pick an available number that won't conflict. Upper classmen get priority.
Probably means, for Emmons at least, that he will be on kick and/or punt return. Hootie has been a mainstay on the return/coverage teams last few years, he wears #6 so Emmons had to change.
