šŸˆ Notre Dame QB Everett Golson transferring for final season (Yahoo Sports)

The turnovers could have been more of him thinking he had to do it alone

The offensive line certainly wasn't much help last year. I remember thinking LSU should have been able to get pressure last season in their bowl game. As I recall, ND gave up close to 30 sacks on the '14 season.

BTW, it's important to note Notre Dame only lost 12 fumbles last season: the same number as Bama.

As I suggested in the first post of this thread I don't think he'd get the waiver. If he did and chose to come to Tuscaloosa, more power to him.

(I'd rather see the Braxton Miller story work out.)

@MissingRing How is it sny diffrent than bringing a JUCO offensive lineman in with 15 or so on scholarsip?

You raise an interesting point. You may know more about recruiting and roster management than I do. If so, I defer to your judgment. But, in answer to your question, I would say that bringing in a JUCO player is a fairly commonplace occurrence, one that is accepted as a normal part of the recruiting process by most fans and players, and an event that usually garners only moderate media attention. The JUCO player is, in my understanding, typically considered to be closer to "game ready" than a prep school recruit, but may nevertheless require additional time in the system before earning a starting role. A graduate transfer by contrast - especially one involving the QB position at a high-profile university and happening soon after spring training - carries with it the suggestion of a hail mary "quick-fix" solution and creates the expectation that the transferring player can accomplish in several months what certain regular recruits at the position were unable to accomplish in two or more years.

Coker, Mettenberger, Wilson, Newton, Masoli...everyone of these guys had an impact pretty darn quickly. Mett was year two, we're still sitting here with questions about Coker.

Have you see the story behind Jake Rudock? He's more than capable of an immediate impact at Michigan. Del Rio with Coach Mac is truly interesting.

It's my opinion people here aren't giving Golson a fair shake.

I'm not discounting the fumbling: it has to be weighed in.

Consider this. We're not even a season removed from Blake setting new records at Bama, right? He finished the season 252 of 391 attempts, 28 TD's versus 10 INT's. Last season Golson finished 256 of 427 attempts, 29 TD's vs 14 INT's. Blake did have a higher completion percentage (+4.5) and threw for around 50 more yards on the season.

@BamaFan334 Earlier you made the comment about the Tide having three QB's on the roster better than Golson. No. We don't. That's one season I touched on there. He's started all about one game in the last two seasons he was eligible. Take a minute and look up his bio on the Notre Dame site. He's set numerous records for the Irish.

With talent around him, good coaching at the QB position, and what he brings to the field experience wise...

I guess I should have stated that we have three guys that know our offense and would perform better in it. Let's be real here and understand that his defense got them to the Championship game and that our defense showed exactly how vulnerable they were. Last season he was a turnover machine and got benched. He may have set some records, but I firmly believe we have three guys on our depth chart that are better equipped than him. We do still have questions to answer, but I'll take our guys over him. Does he not have to answer questions proving his Freshman year was not a fluke, or that he can hold on to the ball without throwing it into the other team's hands?

That's not too far off from how I see the position right now.

Don't misunderstand my defense of Golson with wanting him to come in and compete. If he were to have done so, great. Let's see how it shakes out.

I've got no issues with a guy like Miller coming in and competing. Like the guys on our current roster, he'd have his issues (like terminology, etc.) But all of the guys have their own issues right now as it is...

I think it will be tough for him to grasp the terminology and be ready to contribute. You could see a dumbing down of their offense or Golson not really take the job until game 4 or 5. We saw how quickly it was for Coker to come in with the same amount of practice time and contribute. IT WON'T BE EASY!!
