šŸ€ No. 6/7 Alabama Falls on the Road at No. 20/20 Arkansas, 81-66

If it weren’t for Bruner, this game would be a blowout. It almost is anyway.

I think the oddsmakers knew something we didn’t on this game.
If Arky hits their free throws it is a blowout. 12 points down is not that far from a blowout. This team lost its cool. Maybe I overexaggerated above about effort but they have not play smart.

Been watching this routine from Bama for the last 6-8 games (minus the free throw difference) with an exception here and there.

31 free throws for Arky and 6 for Bama smh.

The positives? Gary and Bruner looked good working their way back from injuries, getting healthy as a team at the right time. Also, Nate Oats' jacket.

The negatives? Pretty much everything else.

I don't think the officials cost Bama the game... Arky played well and it seemed like they caught all the breaks, loose balls, etc. That said, I do hope the officials get pulled over by troopers on their way to the airport with a suitcase full of heroine in their rental car.

Team losing their composer and folding mentally is very concerning. Shackelford and Jones have to stay in the game to help their team. Can't get into foul trouble with stupid plays nor have your senior leader get 2 technical fouls.

Not an easy game on Saturday. I will just say I am concerned how this team is playing down the stretch and leave it at that.

I'm concerned after last night. Exactly why I don't think we are a 1, 2, or 3 seed. Not saying there are for sure 12 better teams, but our consistency is so poor you could get a 1 seed one night and a 15 seed the next. Missouri and Arkansas have shown me more about this team than the Tennessee and LSU games.

The officiating was so poor that those guys need to be reviewed and trained again. The gap between the teams was so big you have to wonder if there was a fix somewhere. Not saying some weren't legit, but I see zero issue with Petty's frustration as the game was kept from the player's hands. Not disputing our crappy night shooting, but ~35 extra potential points offered is tough to overcome as foul trouble becomes a concern as well. We shot like shit too, so I can only hope we get hot for the tournament.

I didn't read any hot takes from the game last night because, A)The game didn't end fast enough and B) I was "basketballed out" and C) It was time for bed! (0500 comes early these days!)

That game was disgusting and we are screwed if we get refs like that crew for any game in the tournament. Our MO is to play blue collar/hard hat basketball and you can say the refs were not the reason we lost but when you literally strip a team of their style of play, what do you think is going to happen? I really hope we don't draw the Hair Club for Refs in future contests. Complete douche bags.

Some of your guy's reactions and comments are pretty amusing. We played at against a solid team that we humiliated a few weeks ago at home, everyone is getting used to our game plan now and are scheming to throw us off more, we had an off shooting night and foul trouble against our two most consistent all around players. The foul trouble was because of some extremely shitty officiating. The only reason the foul differential wasnt worse was because they saw that one point it was like 14-4 foul differences and started calling some on the Hogs to make it look better.

The #10 for them was getting away with whatever he wanted to clear space with zero calls. By far the most agressive guy on the flour and I am not sure he had 1 foul. He was the difference for them in the second half. 2 of the charges on Herb the guy was standing in the restricted circle.

I don't think the refs were paid or anything. I think a very loud student section, mixed with a quick whistle and them being for the underdog a little caused the shitfest that ensued. I dont blame Petty for getting run. I coach AAU now and have played a bunch of basketball and I can promise as a player our a coach there is zero chance I would have been able to keep my mouth shut for some of those calls. As a coach I dont think I would have made it out of the first half..lol

I agree with everything you're saying, but what was the Missouri and Oklahoma games then? We are way better than both of these teams, but our consistency is so up and down that we aren't winning when we fall behind. That's the main reason I say we can be a #1 seed one game and a #15 the next. We have beat a lot of teams that aren't as talented and allowed us to sort of mask that trouble with our consistency. I'm with you that teams are learning to defend us certain ways, hence why Reese took five open threes in the matter of about three minutes in seemed last night. We just get sloppy and it concerns me this late in the season that we haven't stepped up and beaten the ranked teams when we needed. Those are the teams we'll see in the tournament, not many LSU and Auburn's that are Team Me, but more Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas that play a team game.

All this being said, I am elated that we are sitting at six losses and a given to make the tournament this year, hopefully as a 1-5 seed. That makes me so much happier than holding my breath as Sexton drives up court in the SEC tournament to hopefully get us in on a buzzer beater. We have the talent the make an Elite 8, no joke. We just gotta keep Herbert and Shackelford out of foul trouble and hitting their f'ing layups when they get to the rim. Saw Herbert miss on his left last night, rarely happens. Just need those two to step it up so Petty, Bruner, Primo, and Gary can get some open looks.

To your point about the "student section"....I guess Walton Arena is the basketball equivalent of Texas A&M in football because, unless I have lost perspective of crowd size, there were more than 4k people in those stands last night! Not saying we lost because of them but it must be nice to have a facsimile of a "home court advantage". Maybe the crowd noise just gets absorbed into Coleman, who knows?

Obviously not the best game. I know we all never let other factors affect us and expect the same of our sports teams but when a game is officiated like the one last night it creates so many other issues. Yes the standard line is play your game and don’t let it get in your head but that is a tall order on the road in the SEC. It most obviously changed how the game was played on the defensive side and I could see the frustration continue to build. Bottom line is if a game is called that way in either tourney they probably won’t win it either. If this team is hitting on all possible cylinders they can beat anyone in the country, firing on 75% they can still beat most teams all else being equal. Unfortunately last night the engine had a miss in it and the officiating had them chained and they just couldn’t overcome it
