Saturday was Alabama’s first road victory over a top-ranked team since a 70-67 takedown of No. 1 UCLA on Jan. 28, 1983.

I may be off on my basketball history, but I believe I listened to that game on the radio as a high schooler, skip on WLS or the like offering the Westwood One call with Ennis Whatley carrying the Tide.

Bobby Lee Hurt led with 23 points in that game with Whatley getting 20. The unsung hero was Mark Farmer who completely shut down Stuart Gray the Bruins' 7' center. It was one of 11 starts in Farmer's career at Bama with Bama going 11-0 in those games. Reason being, with Hurt and Buck Johnson at the forwards and Farmer at center, Bama had arguably the second best pair of forwards in the nation. Second only to Michael Jordan and whomever Dean Smith happened to pair with him on any given night at UNC.

Tonight, we should be able to see how the Tide responds to coming off a big emotional win against the former, number 1 ranked team in the country. Memphis is no pushover and Penny Hardaway will have the Tigers ready to play. Best of luck to our team!

Impressive. You sound like a 30 for 30 interview!

This is exactly what I'm looking for in the team tonight. Can they maintain the same focus and play better? The game last year against Memphis blew us out 92-78, after playing a close game against Houston. We played two close games and I think it affected them mentally because they couldn't close out games. This year, we are closing out games and winning by 5 or more points. The game against NC and Houston may have boosted their confidence. Today's game will set the tone for for next 4 games and finish out the December schedule.

I see Bobby lee Hurt all the time in this town. I last spoke to him was when University of Alabama played at Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
