At least two NFL teams have reached out to Urban Meyer to see whether the former Ohio State coach would be interested in interviewing for -- if not accepting -- a head-coaching job at the next level, league sources told ESPN.

Meyer, according to a source connected to one of those teams, did not dismiss the overtures and is considering whether to make the jump to the NFL. He intends to decide in the next week, before the NFL regular season is over, and teams expect to hear his decision in the coming days.

Meyer would become one of the most intriguing candidates in this season's NFL head-coaching cycle. He last coached at Ohio State in 2018 but has never coached at the NFL level.

With his connections to the state of Florida -- having coached the Gators from 2005 to 2010 -- Meyer might be a logical fit for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have a vacancy at general manager and are closing in on securing the No. 1 draft pick in 2021.

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone, who is 12-34 since the start of the 2018 season, has one year remaining on his contract after this season.

Sources who have spoken to Meyer believe he wants to make sure that, if he decides to make the jump to the NFL, he is prepared to fully immerse himself in a new world.

Meyer, 56, retired from coaching in December 2018 after seven seasons at Ohio State. He went 187-32 in parts of 17 seasons at Ohio State, Florida, Utah and Bowling Green and won three national titles -- two with the Gators (2006, 2008) and one with the Buckeyes (2014).

well....he has some control...decides who is on field and who isnt....to some degree

One of the reasons CNS came back to college football was that he didn't have enough control over the NFL players' lives to make an impact. He could fine a player, demote a player or work with a GM to try and trade a player, but he couldn't monitor the player's behavior and lifestyle enough to make an impact.

I could possibly see a situation where the Khan's throw a bunch of cash at him and they work out a deal (now that they'll have Lawrence). I don't see a situation where he is ultimately very successful in the NFL.

But, the word around NFL circles very recently was that Jacksonville was wanting to bring in the Eric Bieniemy (HC)/John Dorsey (GM) combo to run the team.

yep. All true. You can see where some players are not going tobe controlled

if you could build a team. You might be successfulin some control. But taking over a team would be near impossible

Personally, I don't think he wanted any part of the Texas job.
Wonder if Texas job is like AU. To many wanting control. Because of their big bucks

i cant see any reason they aren't successful even at that. Great HS football state.
Hermann appears to be pretty good HC. Appears!!!!! Anyway!!!!!! Big 12 reactively weak conference.
whats missing?
Got history and traditions. Flag ship university for state. ?????

Remember that NFL players have a union. College players do not. NFL players play for the money. College players do not. NFL players have contracts with multiple incentive clauses. College players do not.

To me the two biggest differences in college and NFL is this: 1. motivation - you can motivate college kids because you have more impact on them as far as teaching them and helping them get ready for the NFL. When they are already in the NFL you either motivate them with money or they are strong enough to provide their own motivation. 2. Winning - In college you can go undefeated or at the most have one loss. In the NFL you lose 6 games and that's still a good season. Or if you're in the NFC East you have a losing record and still make the playoffs. LOL As a coach you have to be able to accept the idea that losing 5-6 games is not the end of the world. There are other differences of course. Political, financial, organizational, etc.

A couple of other things that a head coach in the NFL does not have to worry about:
1. The constant recruiting of 16 and 17 year old kids.
2. Alumni fan bases with unrealistic expectations.
3. Constant alumni dinners and fundraising.
