NFL News--Alabama players who have been release/signed in preseason '18

Six more players from Alabama high schools and colleges joined NFL practice squads on Monday.

The state players signing on for practice-squad duty on Monday included:

  • Cornerback Tony Brown (Alabama) with the Green Bay Packers. Brown was waived by the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday. The Chargers had signed him as an undrafted rookie.
  • Outside linebacker Jeff Holland (Auburn) with the Denver Broncos. Holland returns to the Broncos after being waived by Denver on Saturday. He signed with the Broncos as an undrafted rookie.
  • Cornerback Cyrus Jones (Alabama) with the Baltimore Ravens. The New England Patriots waived Jones on Saturday. He'd been their second-round draft pick in 2016, but he missed last season because of a knee injury suffered in the final preseason game of 2017. Jones is a native of Baltimore.
  • Defensive end Eric Lee (Daphne) with the Detroit Lions. Lee saw his first NFL action last season with the Patriots, recording 3.5 sacks and an interception in the final six games of the regular season and playing in three playoff games, including Super Bowl LII. New England waived Lee on Saturday. Detroit coach Matt Patricia was the Patriots' defensive coordinator last year.
  • Cornerback Jonathon Mincy (Auburn) with the Chicago Bears. Mincy signed with the Bears in January after playing two seasons in the Canadian Football League. Chicago waived Mincy on Saturday.
  • Running back Bo Scarbrough (Alabama) with the Dallas Cowboys. Scarbrough returns to the Cowboys after being waived by Dallas on Saturday. Speculation during the Cowboys' training camp had the seventh-round draft choice and Darius Jackson battling for the No. 3 running back spot for Dallas. But the Cowboys kept only two running backs on their 53-player roster, releasing both players. Dallas then signed Jackson and running back Jordan Chunn for its practice squad on Sunday. Chunn, a former Madison County High School and Troy standout, had spent the offseason with the Cowboys as an undrafted rookie. When the Packers signed Jackson off Dallas' practice squad, it created an opening for Scarbrough on Monday.
