šŸ’¬ NFL down again in '17. Is it the product, or is it the politics surrounding the product?

We're sure hoping P-Diddy doesn't win the bid for the Panthers. He's already said he'd hire Kap day 1. He'll run off a lot of fans.

Those guys are really pushing for a minority owned team and hoping that helps them win the bid. Anyone think like me that it could help them win over a higher money offer? Am I crazy to think that? I say let the group with the highest bid and if possible, deciding factor be the ones that agree to keep the team in Charlotte, win the team. I'm a fan of free enterprise.
Our city just spent a ton of $$ on Panther/BofA stadium 2 years ago and Jerry agreed not to come back for a certain number of years for more and to keep the team here for so many more years. That's all out the window with new owners. The last ask made a majority of residents upset but politicians didn't care, as usual.... Another threat within a year or 2 will spark outrage. We want a team but not at the costs these guys are demanding. Team owners have these cities by the short hairs. A shame. I wish at the Federal level they'd cut off all funding to sports teams. And make it illegal for lower municipalities to fund them. These owners know they don't have to spend their billions. The rest of us common folks fund their wallets. Hell, anytime I go out to eat I'm sending $ to the stadium. Alright, off my soap box....

If you are willing to just split on a team because they hire one player that you dont like, because of his political stance, you were never actually a fan anyway.

What I would be interested to see would be the TV ratings for college football. Are college ratings down as well? You don't heard college ratings discussed nearly as much as NFL. I'd be interested to see what the prime time college games look like from year to year. I think that would pretty telling...
College was down as well. What's interesting about that decline is the broadcast channels (CBS, ABC) had more of a decline than ESPN. That would go against the cord-cutting theory, right? NBC had a very small drop but they also have less viewers than FOX. CBS carries about two times the viewers compared to NBC.

I can't agree with this. You can't tell me I wasn't a Cowboy fan. However, when Jones came to Dallas and got rid of Landry and Tex then brought in Johnson ... I was gone as a fan of the Cowboys.

It wasn't a political stance, per se. It was who they were.

Not true...at all...
What I try to do..is...pull for the team...and not tthe players...making up the team...
Just dont give a shit about some of them...criminals)...thugs..
racist..punks...trash....kneelers...idiots.....every team has some...i guess...every element of life has some...just know...somewhere they will get theirs...
Cruel way to look at it..maybe...their time in the limelight is short..farewell..good riddance...goodbye...wih those....a few year most will be loading the trucks on an Amazon dock......
For the ones that have standards...awesome.....hope you have a great life

I'm not arguing that, I'm just stating what will happen. Since Diddy came out and said that there's been a lot of angst in town. I stopped going to games last year. Never been a hardcore Panther fan but we'd go to 3-4 games a year. If a new owner comes in and threatens to move the team and brings in kap... not going to be a good story in a charlotte. Look back at the Hornets in what, '06 or so. Went from leading the league in attendance for several straight years to barely getting 2,00" to 3,000 folks in the stands once Shinn started making his demands and threats. Not everyone will jump ship for brining Kap in but there's will be some I can guarantee.

Another thing about Charlotte. Most everyone here is from somewhere else. A chunk of our fans, is say a good majority, moved from NY, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. My neighborhood is mostly these folks as well and we have 500 houses and is pretty high end. I don't have a neighbor from my street or the 2 streets leading to mine that's from the Carolinas. Adopted fans not quite as loyal. Not like Steelers, Packers and Bills fans. Hell, when the Bills and Steelers play in town there's as many fans for the visitors as for the home team.

The NFL players need to work harder on their TD celebration routines ....give me a F break. Whatever happened to just scoring and handing the ball to the officials and I love it when a defensive player jumps up and down and gives us his Hulk Hogan after making a stop....50 yards down the field from where the drive actually started. The NFL problem is Not enough Class. Strike the CL-azz and what you have way too much of these days. Then again I am just old and need to get out of the way. Hell, I still have a flip phone.

I believe they just have a misguided sense of how to protest. I can appreciate their concern but they need to protest it in another way. Slapping the flag is not the way to do it. How about donating your money and time to a cause that would support your protest. If you don't like POTUS then vote him out.
