🏈 GAME THREAD New Year's Six Bowl games and the Rose Bowl. (TV listings, pre-game discussion)

I was feeling decent about the Cajuns whipping the Catholics, but not so much with Canada about to fly the coop and Orgeron messing with the precious little chemistry he has. Not sure why I don't believe in South Carolina, but I don't. With that said, I don't believe in Michigan's QB situation either. UCF will have to beat the barners fair and square with all the mouthing they've done. But no one can mess up a roster quicker than Malzahn and his running back depth is embarrassing to talk about.

UofSC vs Michigan
I wonder how much of your opinion on UofSC is based on Boom at Florida? When it comes to the offense there I'm not on that train yet either. But, when I think about the mentality of Boom and that defense just pinning its ears back? I can easily see UM getting punched in the mouth a few times.

(I'm a little amazed at how my respect level has dropped with Michigan over the years post-Carr. When they were struggling, still are for that matter, it was always "look at our academics" until that fell apart. Then it was "SEC ovesigns" as their crutch. Dealing with their softball fans did nothing to help my opinion. Hiring Harbaugh and his antics? I hope they get the hell beaten out of them today!!" I saw a few suggest there's a chance Harbaugh may take the Indy job--fingers crossed just to see the UM fans reactions.)

UCF vs Auburn
I just don't know what to make of this game. I see a lot expect Auburn to just roll over UCF. I've also seen what happens with Auburn when expectations are like those.

There's one thing I can't escape and that's thinking about the mindset of the UCF team. We've seen what Frost has been able to do with the Golden Knights. (Que @Birdman37 with an AAC reference. ) I fully expect to see those guys leave it all on the field (pardon the cliche'.) Still, no idea how this will go down but I'm hoping for ...

Notre Dame vs LSU.
I'm not convinced, in fact I'm far from being convinced, that all the hype surrounding the ND rushing attack bears noting. It's like you mentioned @TUSKstuff , how to you critique coaching when you look at Orgeron's staff versus that of Kelly's? There's distention at LSU. Then there's Kelly stating he wants an easier schedule so ND will be a team more likely to make the CFP.

Here's the thing: ND sent home one of their running backs leaving them with three. That's manageable. But, that's the second RB they lost for this game with Holmes being suspended for shoplifting along with one of their WR's. They're also missing a TE for this game who is suspended.

I don't see ND being able to hang with the LSU offense as anemic as its been.

UGA vs OU
Plant Mayfield. Win or lose for UGA, just plant Mayfield like he's a flag.

UofSC vs Michigan
I wonder how much of your opinion on UofSC is based on Boom at Florida?

Hard to say. But USC feels like an overachieving team that took full advantage of an SEC east schedule. Bowls games are a lot about the luck of the draw and so far we have had to play teams that have more talent and depth. Like Miss St, they could do it, but Harbaugh will have to lay another egg.

CFU vs Auburn. I just don't know what to make of this game.

This game is just pure house money. I'm hopeful because Frost cared enough to be here. They have a great offense and it obviously matters to the players more with an unbeaten season at stake. Could happen.

Notre Dame vs LSU.

For every year Ed O is there is another year we don't have to worry about another sleeping giant in the west. With the coaching upgrade in the SEC that's a good thing. I just think, win or lose, they've already found their place. Out of first.

Plant Mayfield.

Wouldn't it be too bad if Mayfield doesn't have his fastball today? :p

I'm hopeful because Frost cared enough to be here.

:hijack: @TUSKstuff, here's an interesting tidbit about Frost.

Huard: Frost’s loyalty to his staff has gotten a lot of people’s attention

ATLANTA - In today’s world of high-dollar coaching changes in college football, what Scott Frost did with his coaching staff is nearly unheard of.
Typically, when a coach leaves a lesser job for what’s perceived a more prestigious one, very few of his coaching staff comes with him. Sometimes the athletic director at your new school won’t allow you to take very many coaches, and sometimes coaches feel they have to upgrade their staff with “bigger names” to appease their new fan base.
With Frost, he took all 12 of his top coaches with him, and nearly all of his key support staff members are following to Lincoln as well.
“The fact that he’s taking every coach, and not leaving one of them behind, in the coaching fraternity is unheard of – unheard of,” ESPN’s Brock Huard said. “There are coaches that have left here recently and brought one coach on the staff and left the other 10 to go figure it out. In all the coaches I’ve run into and bumped into and talked to through all of this with him, that’s what’s resonated: ‘Man, he took every one of them.’ It doesn’t happen like that very often.”
Huard added Athletic Director Bill Moos deserves a lot of credit as well, for not trying to force moves on Frost.
“That speaks to why Nebraska wanted him so desperately,” Huard said. “That speaks to the Tom Osborne DNA. These guys were good enough to go from 0-12 to 12-0, they are good enough to come here. I know that’s (Frost’s) quote, and that’s not mine, and it’s true.
“It speaks to loyalty, and it speaks to so many things we don’t see in today’s college football. We just don’t. We don’t see now even with players in programs, like the individual college players in their programs, we don’t see it with coaches in programs – we don’t see near enough of it. It overflows, his cup overflows with that loyalty in that manner.”

I hope he's successful for loyally keeping all the staff, but if he isn't, he can make adjustments as needed. Frost is going to get a lot of leeway with his Husker background and for choosing them over other elite teams that wanted him. It feels like CF has a lot of mojo going today.

On a turnover UofSC allows three to Michigan on a FG.

An interesting stat ... 14 turnovers this year leading up to the game and they only allowed 13 points off of them. Now it's 15 and 16.

With all the technological advances with TV coverage you'd think they'd have figured out a way to keep the Skycam from fogging over by now.

Just sayin'

One hour into football for 2018 and there's not a TD to be found, yet.
