šŸˆ New Software discussion thread—pre-tutorial, if you will...post your questions and observations here

Sites work good on my ipad and iphone. Just curious why did y'all get rid of the Apple app?

If I understand things correctly, and Doe kinda touched on it, the mobile part is just kinda built in with this, no need for an expensive app. I used the the app 75% of the time to access the site, and thus far, this new mobile version (no app) blows it away in terms of performance and user friendliness. To be fair, I've been doing more browsing than posting on the mobile side thus far, but as of now, I'm loving it.

the apple app was with the vbulletin software, it was also costing 100+ a year extra for an apple developers fee

Building on what both Bran and Lance said a bit...

On the old platform, if you were browsing without the app you had the option to switch the templates to Mobile or Default (desktop.) Therein was a problem...it was associated with your username (if I recall this correctly) and you ended up switching back and forth depending on how you were browsing.

Therefore, the apps were built. However, both the Android and iOS app had their issues as well...

We started looking at an upgrade...geez, over a year ago I think? vBulletin, the old software, had a new release that included mobile versions...but, it had so many damn bugs it was a joke. Those bugs, once reported, seemed to remain in their "to do" list. That led to us doing quite a bit of research on what would be the best user experience to have here.

NOW...where we are with this software...this uses a query to read what you're browsing with and answers that query with a responsive design. So...if you're on your phone, tablet, laptop, home computer, whatever...the response you get is based on what you're browsing with...and, all of the functions carry from one device to the other.

It left an option. Continue with an app, which required a yearly payment, to give members a user-friendly interface. Or, use what this software provides, which gives members a better user interface, and not pay extra for an app. The app for both OS's didn't provide as much as this software provides just using your normal browser on whichever device you choose.

Not to be the debbie downer here but is there anyway we can get the subforums back (like "Alabama football", etc.)?

Go back to the first page...look for my post about 3/4th's of the way down in response to mhardiman.

When I first mentioned this change over on the old platform I pointed out some of the changes you'd see would be dramatic, some you wouldn't notice at all. When I look at this page alone, as in right now, I see at least a dozen things that still need to be done just on this template/style. (Then there's the small issue of those same things having to be done on basketball, recruiting (which I've not touched yet) and all the other forums.

There is a list of "to do's." It's not written down, per se, but it exists. Changes like you're suggesting are on the list...but, not next on the list.

Some of what we're doing now is observation...how the user-end experience is with changes in the software itself. There's more than a handful of things that will be added.

Patience is all I can ask, ya know? Suggestions like yours are WELCOMED!!! The best way I know to put this is "before I implement suggestions I want to finish what I know needs to be done." That'll save me time from stopping what's being done now, doing something else, then coming back.

BAD ANALOGY: like building a house...but if I stopped and built one room, painted it, then built another, painted it...build the whole damn house and then paint.

Just checked it out, it looks great. I used the app a lot too, and this is a big improvement.

Somebody splain the trophies to us commoners.

Haven't really looked at them...will at some point down the road. When I do, I'll likely take away some trophies from people because the parameters are set up.

The "Can't Stop" trophy is based on 100 posts...250 likes on your threads/posts gets the "Can't Get Enough" trophy...

I'll look at it in more depth in a few weeks.
