🏈 New rumors of A&M and the SEC??

For the east my first choice would be FSU followed by Clemson then VT. I don't think FSU being in the SEC would hurt Florida's feelings one bit. They are a good rivalry and now with it having SEC implications would make the game that much better IMO. They already recruit against one another, in a super talent rich state, so nothing changes other than the fact that the game could mean an eastern division title. Same can be said for Clemson. Either of these 2 teams would be a "best" fit IMO for the SEC east. VT would be a defacto choice if one of the other 2 choices didn't work out.

FSU had the chance to join the SEC many years ago but went to the ACC instead. There are lots of decent teams that "could" join the SEC but I'll have to see it actually happen first. Personally, I'd like to see several teams in the SEC.

The only thing that comes to mind is if they moved AU to the east they'd have to change the schedule, completely. There's no way the SEC losses the revenue from the Iron Bowl (term needs to be dropped: not in B-ham.)

They would have to go to two teams out of the SEC East as permanant teams on every years schedule. I DON'T want to see Auburn or UT off our schedule each year.

AMEN Terry!! I love having UT and the Barn each year!

I've heard some scuttle that with aTm, Va Tech or FSU would be the 14th team to join. That would keep the Barn in the West I would imagine. Any thoughts???

I don't think we will ever see FSU in the SEC. I think Florida would have an issue with it and until FSU really gets their feet back under them, they aren't ready for the SEC. It would be interesting and they make more sense than VA Tech. From a revenue standpoint, it makes more sense to open up a new market though. VA Tech may be the SEC's first choice for the East

aTm makes sense and opens our TV (and recruiting) market to a new area

Also, please get "BadAllergies" a trophy or a ribbon or a cuddle or something for best username

It is now being reported that FSU is in talks with the SEC. I've been wrong before and it appears that I was wrong above, also

I'm with rammerjammer. I don't see why Florida would mind FSU in the SEC. They play every year anyway and already recruit against each other.

I wouldn't say you were wrong Duder. To me, logic dictated that FSU stay in the ACC since it is a patsy of a football conference and they could dominate that league and get the BCS tie in. Here in the SEC, FSU won't be the BMOC, but rather one of the top 6 at best. The only reason I threw them out there in the Texas A&M talks was geographically, they are the best fit for us.

Adding a team from the East coast makes sense if you figure that the SEC is looking to invade that market, just as adding A&M is a way for the SEC to slide into Texas.

I would like to see Virginia Tech added but FSU or Clemson would be nice additions.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. FSU is a great geographic fit and already playes Florida every year, and has played various other SEC schools over the years. Clemson has natural rivalriies with Georgia and South Carolina and is also a good geographic fit. Neither one would expand our market area, though. Va Tech gets us into the DC area, but they are geographically isolated from the rest of the SEC and have no natural rivalries among confernece teams. They are 236 miles from Knoxville, 313 from Lexington, 260 from Columbus.

Florida to Arkansas is a thousand miles, and the conference has excelled inspite of it. I understand your point...everyone has a long drive...but the schools would be flying mostly and the fans would have the same option.

But consider this; College Station, TX to Baton Rouge, LA is 366 miles...to Fayettville, AR 513 miles...to Starkville, MS 605 miles...to Tuscaloosa, AL 662 miles.

I'm not pulling for VaTech to join the SEC, but they are less isolated than Arkansas, and other than Athens, Columbia is close to no school. Florida is more isolated than any school, 312 from aubrun. It's uncommon to have teams within 200 miles of each other. Bama has three, and MSU is the only team with two opponents within 100 miles.

After enjoying Bama shutting up VaTech fans in Atlanta, I've also decided they don't need any "natural" rivalries. They would get hated soon enough.

TexAgs.com is reporting this as almost a done deal. The report of the BOR meeting being moved up to this Monday has people over there thinking this is the closing move in what is pretty much final. TexAgs premium material is even being made available to non-premium members over there on the site. Excitement is sky high over what looks like something official very soon.

You guys should check out their site. On the first two pages alone you will see 20-30 threads regarding A&M's (not quite official) move to a new conference, and how the fan bases are already interacting.

BTW, saw a ling on another site last night regarding FSU. Looks like there are rumblings in Tallahassee now too. Things could get be getting interesting.

He is a newbie...don't pay attn. to what he posts.
He's right, this time. :headscratch:

Taken from TexAgs.

Listening to Tony on the radio now in Nashville... here's a quick synopsis...

- The Presidents are meeting now, or sometime today. Will probably be a couple of meetings. One via web conference, one face to face.
Yes, meetings were originally scheduled for Sunday, but have been moved up.

- A&M BOR moved their meeting up to Monday in order to counterstrike the Education Board meeting on Tuesday.

- Tony spoke with someone who is "very very high" on the Big 12 hierarchy, and they told Tony that the only way A&M does not go to the SEC, is if the SEC Presidents vote against.

- Mike Slive is 100% confident that the Presidents will vote A&M in. Tony said a meeting would not have been called unless Slive was totally confident he would get the desired outcome.

- Tony said he has heard that all rumors regarding FSU are not true. FSU has not heard from the SEC. Tony said a lot of schools in the SEC do not want FSU, because they shunned the invite in 1991.

- SEC is making this move, because Slive feels like the status quo of college football is about to change. Slive wants to be proactive, not reactive.

- OU feels like the Big 12 is going to be alright as long as it has OU and TU. According to Tony, OU wants to Big 12 to survive, because they it gives them the easiest path to BCS bowls and National Championships.

- Tony says VPI is a no go due to Virginia politics. VPI and UVA are directly tied at the hip now due to all the mess that went on to the VPI into the ACC several years back. If VPI comes, it means UVA would have to come, and that's not going to happen.

- SEC would love to look East to Carolina, mainly NC State, but that seems to be a longshot. So, a 14th member might just be Clemson or Mizzou, due to default.

So, we're possibly looking at.....

SEC West
1. Alabama
2. Arkansas
3. Auburn
4. LSU
5. Mississippi
6. Mississippi State
7. Missouri
8. Texas A&M

SEC East
1. Clemson
2. Florida
3. Florida State
4. Georgia
5. Kentucky
6. South Carolina
7. Tennessee
8. Vanderbilt

It will be interesting to see how the schedule would work in that event.
