🏈 New rumors of A&M and the SEC??

The only thing that comes to mind is if they moved AU to the east they'd have to change the schedule, completely. There's no way the SEC losses the revenue from the Iron Bowl (term needs to be dropped: not in B-ham.)

They would have to go to two teams out of the SEC East as permanant teams on every years schedule. I DON'T want to see Auburn or UT off our schedule each year.

AMEN Terry!! I love having UT and the Barn each year!

I've heard some scuttle that with aTm, Va Tech or FSU would be the 14th team to join. That would keep the Barn in the West I would imagine. Any thoughts???

I don't think we will ever see FSU in the SEC. I think Florida would have an issue with it and until FSU really gets their feet back under them, they aren't ready for the SEC. It would be interesting and they make more sense than VA Tech. From a revenue standpoint, it makes more sense to open up a new market though. VA Tech may be the SEC's first choice for the East

aTm makes sense and opens our TV (and recruiting) market to a new area

Also, please get "BadAllergies" a trophy or a ribbon or a cuddle or something for best username

Same here with keeping UT on the schedule, I live in Memphis and I love to hate those damn Vols!

Virginia Tech to the SEC would be nice, they have had a very good team for quite sometime and would be a stable addition. Plus, it would be nice to add an East coast team to the SEC.

so apparently the NCAA discussed this today and said no to high school games on school or conference networks (probably shuts down a potential Big Ten play as well), as it creates an unfair advantage?

Yet another classic example of the NCAA being "fair and reasonable" and selectively growing a spine

We all know that this will end up with 16 team conferences, so picking the the next one or two is like predicting a game's halftime score...pointless. Who the "final four" will be is the talk around the water cooler at my office.

Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State (Because taking both is the only way to get the Sooners)
Virginia Tech

Texas A&M brings most of Texas that is not lost to the Longhorns.
Oklahoma and OK State brings the Sooner nation, the relatively small state of Oklahoma market, and a nice slice of BIG 12 status quo.
Virginia Tech seizes the "big brother" team of the state of Virgina and tapps into the D.C. tv market.

for the record Bill Liucci is tweeting that it isn't a done deal - he is a TAMU guy that is part of texags.com Cecil is just spreading rumor at this point. Chris Low seems to think its better than a 50% chance TAMU will be playing SEC in 2012.

I don't think TAMU is gonna be on the winning end of this scenario, they are gonna have to buy outta the Big XII, they are eventually going to fire Sherman (it is my opinion), he was on his way out and then benched their QB to put in the 2nd string guy last season which probably saved his job, they are gonna get punished by SEC play, and they are still gonna lose recruits to Texas just like they always have.

this article summarizes TAMU pretty well in my opinion - I suggest you all read this.

Yeah, Cecil said he wasn't sure and was just passing info along.

Pulling a paragraph from your link...

First of all, if A&M goes to the SEC, they'll have to pay an exit fee of a good chunk of their television revenue in 2011 AND be phased into a full revenue share in their future league. Remember, this is an athletic department that was struggling to pay the bills (the school's endowment has plenty in the bank however). Second, you would not be equals in the mighty Southeastern Conference. You are the new kid on the block and you're closer to Ole Miss and Arkansas than Alabama and Florida. All conferences are not created equal.

LSU left out again...

Yeah, TAMU has deep pockets, no doubt about it. 40k kids on campus makes for a lot of future donators.

How about that comparison of revenue vs profit? I don't think people realize how deep Texas' pockets are.

I'll have to look to find the endowment numbers. But, as of a few years ago A&M had more money in the bank than Texas did/does...as I recall.

As I see it the only way $$ comes into play is how much that conference offers them to stay. I don't see it as how much it'll cost them to leave. That can be negotiated.

I hear a distant rumbling sound...oh wait, it is the sound of the Big 12 slowly breaking apart.

If we are headed toward the time of the "super-conference" how do yall see the Big East and ACC faring?

Considering the ACC's success in football in BCS games I wouldn't mind seeing them drop off the map. But then there's basketball.

Here's another question to consider...

What if Auburn moved to the East? We play them the last week of the season and then again, a week later, in ATL?

That was a big question on sports radio here yesterday. I'm sure the folks in GA just love when Alabama talk is a major conversation on "their" station.

You are aware Cam is no longer there, right Terry?

We need A&M in the West and Clemson to join the East.
