šŸˆ New Rule: No Duplicate Jersey Numbers?

Hmm, didn't catch that one, just looked it up on the NCAA site and I'm curious now as well - wondering if the data in () is the catch - ie, the same position can't have the same number. Thinking this has something to do with Lane Kiffin.

  • To require a player that changes numbers during the game to report this to the referee, who will announce it.
  • To preclude multiple players from the same team from wearing the same uniform number (for example, two quarterbacks on the same team are not allowed to have the same number).

I think this has got to be what they mean. Given normal roster sizes counting walk ons, I don't see you can keep from having duplicate numbers.

New duplicate number rule.

Here is the rule:

NEW RULE No. 5: Only one player with a given number can participate at any position; any player with a duplicate number cannot play the same position.

Changing #s during the game has to do with Kiffin. He did that against Colorado.

Miles is the reason for the duplicate numbers at one position rule. He has all 3 PKs wearing #30. Has 2 LBs with #56 and 2 DTs with #91. Also has a WR and TE with #84.

Thanks, the original article didn't specify that it was only for the same position. Alabama's practice of having duplicate numbers on either side of the ball won't be affected.
