Those were for the practice facility in the Mal Moore building. Their gameday lockers were a dark wood grain with their name and # on it. If an All American wore that # before them, there was a separate plaque on it saying who wore that # before them. For example, Surtain would have Derrick Henry's name on his locker/ David Palmer.

Just seemed odd to dress elsewhere to show up where they could dress (and where the equipment managers need to take their uniforms).

They were probably dressing elsewhere while the new locker room was being built and their gear was there, but I get your meaning. If it’s finished, why not prepare it and present at the same time.
