🏈 NCAA shreds Sheridan

"...his claims of having an inside source with details on the Auburn investigation....."

THIS is the ONLY thing out there, in WRITING, on an NCAA LETTERHEAD, that PROVES that there is even an investigation of Auburn.

So who won? I would say Sheridan. The NCAA was stupid for even releasing this letter.

Helluva cost to try and "prove" something that I was under the impression everyone already knew after Chiziks sparring with the NCAA in Florida a couple months ago...The NCAA told Chizik he would know when the investigation was over. Sheridan could have still given the name of the "bagman" and any other information he had without giving up his source. Is it possible what he told them....they already knew ? I doubt it....if that was the case and it was credible information....why would they release this statement ? I dont know what he would have expected to gain by telling a lie and getting humiliated by the NCAA....maybe he didnt expect the NCAA to comment on an ongoing investigation...

Too many people are underestimating Danny Sheridan, his reputation and his connections. I've heard it said he is just trying to get publicity or some other nonsense. Why would he subject himself to this barrage of ridicule? He already has a highly lucrative gig and an excellent reputation, but he is just going to throw that all away so he can go on Finebaum?!?! Yeah, right.

I believe Mr. Sheridan is ever more motivated now as a matter of ensuring his reputation doesn't get tarnished in the end. Don't underestimate Mr. Sheridan - he is no Johnny-come-lately newbie.

I didn't say he was trying to prove anything. What I said was their stupid letter is the first proof, in writing, that there is an investigation. And I'm not the only one. I just ran across this:

"I frankly think the NCAA screwed up with yesterday’s statement, in which it not only copped to the fact that there is an active and ongoing investigation, it’s an “Auburn investigation.” That’s the first time we’ve seen an official statement from the league that they are knee deep in the process of investigating the 2010 National Champs."

This statement by the NCAA feel s like one that would be made if the NCAA's motivation for calling the meeting has been to dicover a mole.

If DS says that his information comes from the NCAA, via a source, then the NCAA would already have DS's information and then have no need to ask him for case-related information. Should DS share what his knows, the NCAA could only confirm/deny that the information had indeed leaked, and the amount of information that had been lost.

As for DS "trying to get information"...that's what he does, and that's exactly what the NCAA was doing themselves. For the NCAA to call him an "information seeker" like it was a bad thing is hypocritical and holier-than-thou.

All that noted, it sounds like neither side shared information at all which is the more bazaar aspect of this piece...why did they meet.

In the end we confirm/denied nothing, and learned nothing other than that the NCAA does not like anyone else daring to play "I have a secrets and you can't have it".

I disagree with a couple of things here. Well, I see them differently; let's put it that way.

A source within the NCAA doesn't mean a source within the infractions committee. As example, if you don't think bowl selection committee members know of investigations that are underway you've short sided the NCAA and its money making motives.

Secondly, if you think that the people in Vegas—and recall Danny is a nationally known odds-maker—don't have sources within the NCAA?

Do you see where I'm going here?

Emmertt met with Danny in a power struggle, who has the bigger influence, kind of meeting. I've got that on as good authority as you can on this meeting. Does it shock you the NCAA would attempt a power play? We saw how they reacted a few months ago when a coach tried to get in a pissing match with someone on the COI.

I think DS's most recent statement in response to the NCAA's statement is not only very eye opening, it also supports what Terry was suggesting about a power struggle.

MOBILE, Alabama -- Mobile native Danny Sheridan, who spoke last week with the NCAA about the Cam Newton investigation, reacted strongly to the organization's Friday statement that said Sheridan "continues to make vague, unsubstantiated claims without backing them up with proof."
Sheridan's latest statement, in its entirety, reads:
"The NCAA statement about me is total propaganda and an absolute misrepresentation of the facts. For the record, I do have sources at the NCAA and that's why the organization has chosen to shoot the messenger.
"The NCAA called me through my attorney and requested an interview. I spoke with two NCAA investigators last Wednesday for almost an hour. I was consistent with them as I have been with the media and the public in refusing to divulge my sources.
"I also politely declined to share the name of the individual I have been told gave money to
Cecil Newton. For the NCAA to claim I did anything else is specious, deceitful, disingenuous and completely false. I will be happy to take a polygraph test on these specific issues and challenge them to do so as well."
Sheridan had said previously an NCAA source told him of a "bag man" who helped recruit Newton, the future Heisman Trophy winner, to
Auburn. After making his claims on Paul Finebaum's
radio show, Sheridan was contacted by the NCAA through his attorney, Vince Kilborn.
"I have no idea if the allegations against Auburn are true," Sheridan said last week. "I only know that what I reported was exactly what I was told."
Sheridan said Saturday that he had agreed to the NCAA's request that he not talk to anyone about the specifics of their meeting. But, Sheridan said, Friday's statement posted by the NCAA on its website changed that.
"I told them that I would honor their request to say 'no comment' when asked about what was said in the meeting," Sheridan. "Of course, all bets are off when they released that statement."
The NCAA has continued to investigate Newton's recruitment after Cecil Newton admitted discussing a financial arrangement that would send his son to Mississippi State. The NCAA has never implicated Auburn in its investigation of Newton's recruitment.

Not talking about this site... Since he has started talking,Twitter, various news sources, etc have all been talking about him.

This is what I'm referring to. I guess my point was why create all the drama if you aren't gonna talk?

I'm I the only one tired of hearing about Sheridan and his sources and who he thinks the bagman is? I'm in the either say it or stop beating the dead horse camp.
The only thing I'm tired of is a bunch of adults who heard DS say that he was going to get the name & not reveal it on air whine, cry, & complain about DS not revealing it on air. After reading the NCAA's statement the title of this thread should read, 'NCAA Takes Aim at Sheridan, Pulls Pin, Forgets to Throw Grenade'.

They made him look like a fool, pure and simple.

Good piece. It occures to me that everyone is right.
DS does make statements that a vague, and he did not share his sources or confirm/deny the name of the BAGMAN.
The NCAA got neither the name of DS's source (a.k.a. their mole), nor got DS to do their job for him.
The NCAA's statement certainly was heated, hurt feelings/egos no doubt, but why? Terry's Power play.

The NCAA, in the aftermath of Yahoo getting 11 months worth of interviews to expose what the NCAA has been missing or ignoring for the better half of a decade, DS professing "but wait, there is more" does not bolster confidence. So, the NCAA is on damage control mode and DS is not helping and the NCAA moves to marginalize DS.
