Needed, in my view. When you're watching a team in bonus with half of the half remaining? I'm hoping this move leads to some of the way fouls are assessed.
Entirely against. I enjoy the two halves and that it is unique for Men's CBB. The NCAA only wants to move this to have more commercials and get more $.

Well it allows them to substitute players more and coaches to adjust more to flow of the game. This gives oats advantage imagine him adjusting each period.

There's a reason to why he doesn't like calling time outs. He doesn't believe in that. Why call time outs to just tell them to play harder? His teams are conditioned to sustain long runs without timeouts and honestly, there's a little value in calling timeouts. There's nothing like calling time out and then the other team goes on a run and then calling timeouts again.
The only time I believe to call timeout if there's a player that needs to get in the game ASAP or you see something that can be exploited to give you advantage and I think oats is good at that.
I remember going to this game the other day and it had highschool teams playing in summer league. There was two team going at each other.
Score was 37-28. The losing team didn't call a single time out in first half. It got worse in third quarter. I believe it was 53-38. Coach didn't call timeout. He kept telling them to figure it out and play through it. I heard parents and spectators screaming at him to call timeout. He didn't listen.
Guess what? Fourth quarter. They finally got it. Got close within 5 and they lost by 1.
So I think it works differently based on coaches....

Iām in the same boat. Quarters/periods to me breaks up tempo or flow of the game too much for my liking. When I was coaching junior high and even B team, I always wanted to most time allowed each quarter/period. Junior high used to be 6, 7, or even 8 minute periods at the home teamsā discretion. With 6 minutes, it felt like you were up and down the floor 3-4 times and the period was over.
