📝 National Signing Day - 2018

Langham looks headed to Florida as well.
Waddle?
So what is the plan with the unused spots? Were there any people that we have been keeping on the back, back, back burner?

Likely too late in the game to get anyone else. Can't blame someone for waiting this late in the day for a spot, even if it is with the strongest program in college football history and the greatest coach of all time. They likely want to sign where they had a guaranteed spot and know they are a top priority.

"I tried to explain it as best as I could on Tuesday night. A lot of guys were unpredictable. What surprises me are the ones who informed Alabama on Wednesday morning and then announced elsewhere. Not the way to handle things" - Andrew Bone
That was the biggest surprise. Seems like the recruits wanted more attention and what better way to do it than to spurn Bama. I actually like the fact that we dodged them seems as though their attitudes and cockiness wasn't built for ttown

I can imagine lots of possible reasons for our slip this recruiting cycle: coaching attrition, too much depth, Smart's "process" at UGA, the new coaching honeymoon phenomenon at other schools, etc. Or maybe it was finally time for Bama not to finish as highly.

But does any blame belong to current players who were perhaps poor recruiting hosts?

Screw it, we addressed a major position of need at cornerback, added a ton of talent back there. We have a lot of quality offensive linemen, stables of backs, and a long line of linebackers chomping at the bit. Little slim at defensive line and receiver, but we will make do. I'm a little upset, but we still stole Surtain from LSU and will maybe hit on Taylor-Stewart and Waddle.

I know they are and I'm sitting here like WOW I'm more shocked at the antics that were pulled. Being offered a scholarship is an honor. I didn't like Quay threw the Tennessee hat, or brown saying he's signing only to change the commitment time just so the reporter could be there to show him signing to a&m. #completecircus

Maybe we were on some of the wrong recruits this year. Watching Josh McDaniel, of Patriot's fame, renege on a job offer he excepted about 3 weeks ago and even hired some of his coaching staff, clearly shows that showing character has no age limit. He's rightly being destroyed in the press for the lack of professionalism and qualities he displayed as a HC candidate. I'm saying this not because we lost recruits, but some of the ways that some of these guys chose to handle their decisions. Perhaps like Indy, maybe we were on some of the wrong guys.

I'd definitely agree with that

This may be a good thing that we missed on some of today's targets. Just look at the freshmen class we signed last year. Those guys were high in character and had their heads on straight. No nonsense and possibly our best class ever. Maybe those guys we missed today would've messed up the continuity. Who knows but I'm not concerned going forward RTR

I think having limited opportunities doomed us. I mean, a few quarterbacks did not know if they could commit or not as of the weekend. That's tough. It's easy to say now, but we should have let the ones commit that were willing to commit instead of holding out. Sure, the odds were with us that we wouldn't whiff like this, but sometimes you gotta take the guys that want it the most over the talent. I refer back to the Coach Bryant speech about ability here.
