📝 National Signing Day - 2018

Saban: There's always guys you thought you might not get that you get and guys you thought you were going to get that you don't get.

Saban: "Overall, I think we solved a lot of needs in this class."

Saban: You have to try to solve some of the needs of your team. I think we were able to do that in this class.

Saban on Alabama's five DB signees: "We felt really, really good about the five guys we were able to attract at that position, and those guys are going to have a great opportunity to compete on our team."

Saban: "You can't look at a puppy dog and look at his feet and know how big he's going to get some day. The real evaluation ... is down the road in 2-3 years."

"Sometimes it matches up in terms of how you get ranked and rated and sometimes it doesn't, but you have to address needs." Saban then points at the defensive back signees: "Patrick Surtain is ranked as one of the top guys at his position."

Saban: The recruiting calendar has changed how we recruit.

Saban on staff turnover: There may be some prospects....that might have been a little bit of an issue with them. Saban said the coaches he hired did a great job of trying to recruit late in the process. Said he understands that certain prospects may have had relationships with coaches that left.

Saban: "We felt really, really good about the five guys we were able to attract at (defensive back)."

Saban: We're actually hoping to get one more DL in this class.

This one is for you @Birdman37

Saban: "I think we've all grown to understand that commitments don't mean much."

Saban - Rather than "reach" for a QB in this class, Bama will look to "fill it in another way" this year and try to land a top QB next year.

Some perspective...

First, we got played today by our rivals and some HS kids. This whole process of telling the kid to make the best decision for them and slow playing the ones that aren't at the top of our list really bit us today. You can bet UA will make adjustments to make sure we have our bases covered next NSD.

That said, all the talk about how terrbile this class turned out is wrong. Here are the average player ratings of each class since 2008 according to 247. Notice it is exactly in the middle and actually has an average player rating above 2 classes that were rated #1. No need to seal the windows with plastic and tape or move into the bomb shelter. We are fine...

2017 - 93.76 - #1
2015 - 93.73 - #1
2014 - 93.65 - #1
2012 - 93.40 - #1
2013 - 93.25 - #1
2018 - 92.78
2016 - 92.54 - #1
2011 - 92.19 - #1
2009 - 91.39 - #3
2008 - 91.20 - #3
2010 - 89.95 - #4

All sorts of confused by this video. No one in his party had Florida gear on. Gotta respect him being his own man atleast. Can't be said for a lot of these guys. Momma didn't act very supportive, even though I get the frustration. The interviewer was a clueless asswad the way he took Copeland's moment away from him like that. Good for Jacob to keep his composure.

I guess all that could be true but still why the disconnect between mom and son? The biggest thing in the kid's life and a recruiting process that has taken the recruit all over the place and the 2 didn't both know what the decision was at the same time? Not in my family.
