I wouldn't try to read too much into what he's saying. He's just being conservative--a tempered approach. His forum over reacts to practically everything. It's not the same people every time, but it's the same group most of the time.

Saturday morning one of the A&M mods CB'd Brown to A&M. Within a matter of a couple of hours there were more than a handful of threads talking about how Brown had flipped. A&M people are convinced he's flipped but as shared on numerous occasions he's been telling the staff at Bama he's planning on honoring his commitment.

The day before signing day telling people "I like Bama's chances" won't do much to satiate their want(s) for more. That fits a good number of kids this cycle.

Five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. is set to announce his decision on National Signing Day on Wednesday, with LSU and Alabama in a dogfight for the nation's top cornerback prospect.

LSU held a lead for nearly the entirety of Surtain's recruitment, prior to a late surge by Alabama, with his official visit to Tuscaloosa giving the Crimson Tide an opportunity to close the gap last month. Like LSU, Alabama has a major need at cornerback, and the opportunity to be coached by Nick Saban, who specializes in defensive backs, would be appealing to the talented prospect.

But LSU is able to counter with defensive backs coach Corey Raymond, who built a strong bond with the Surtains during the recruiting process. As the emotion of his official visit to Alabama subsided, LSU was able to re-establish itself as the leader for his services.

Raymond has been vital in LSU's recruitment of Surtain, and the desire to play for him is simply too much for the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder to pass up. As Alabama continued to press Surtain, Raymond stayed the course, remained open and honest in his message, and gave him the space he needed to not feel pressured, which worked in LSU's favor.

Raymond elected to let Surtain visit Alabama without the persistent phone calls and text that recruits often receive during a time like that. The two were back on the line together that following Monday, with Raymond reiterating his message -- this is where you want and need to be. The Tigers sent numerous coaches to south Florida to meet with the Surtains in the following weeks, in hopes of reigniting that passion about LSU football that the five-star had since he first put on pads.

Confidence from LSU's side remained high throughout the entire process, despite Alabama's efforts. Raymond has shown the ability to close out the recruitment of defensive backs during his tenure at LSU, landing the vast majority of prospects he is chasing at this stage of the process.

Confidence level: 75 percent

Look, there is no such thing as a certainty in recruiting. When talking to sources on all three sides, the consensus is that LSU leads, but the fight is not over. But experience tells me that the team chasing usually has to become the established leader prior to the start of the NCAA dead period, which is already underway, and the Crimson Tide does not appear to be in that position.

I like Alabama’s chances with Surtain, Eddie Smith, Justyn Ross, Malik Langham, Jaylen Waddle, Jaylen Moody, probably Bobby Brown (it’s close), and I’m going to say Nick Petit-Frere. I think Vernon Jackson and Quay Walker flip. There is also a chance Bama gets Glenn Beal.

There are still some unknowns. The list I gave is who I believe Alabama is in the best position to land on Wednesday. It doesn’t mean UA will get all. I don’t expect a flip from another school to Alabama to happen at this time.

ETA: More info came out this morning from Hank (BOL). Bobby said he comin' and hasn't wavered. He visited ATM last weekend only to have some fun with friends.

This catches my eye because if it's true, that Raymond was open and honest with his message, I wonder if that message included Raymond interviewing for other jobs? After all, the paragraph here is based on "the desire to play for him is simply too much."

One of those rumors/stories running around in the last 24 hours is people commenting on the CB's and how many of them have Surtain headed to LSU. What's missing from these threads is how few have been submitted over the last few days. The vast majority had him headed to LSU a long time ago.

I noticed on 247 last week or so we had made up a lot of ground in the Crystal Ball percentages, but I checked yesterday and we were back down to 4%. I don't know how those work as I assume once they are submitted they do not edit, but maybe they can?

I've not paid a lot of attention to the CB's since their first few years. It's my opinion picks are being chosen based on others picks and not a lot of these guys actually doing the research.

If Walker flips to Tennessee/Georgia, I would think that Peterson would put us way ahead of the game at that position when it's said and done. Surtain just feels like a get to me. Even a little honest soul-searching tells him the odds of winning a championship in the next 3 years at LSU is highly unlikely.
