📝 National Signing Day - 2018

Dang @TerryP, can't a brother attempt some humor on your website?

Seriously doe, I thought Papp did a pretty good job this year. Evidently the new stadium in ATL is built over an Indian burial ground, but until the shank in the championship game I thought Papp was serviceable. Thankfully Tua kept him from being the most despised FG kicker at Bama since Pflugner.

you miss the emoji?

You know, I've seen people rag on Saban for icing the kicker in close games. I don't know of any other headcases that's are as big as the ones you find with kickers.A year ago we're talking about a kid that grew up in an orphanage with no parents was brought over to the states... of course he had injury issues as well.

It's just the weirdest streak of luck I've ever seen

(If someone wants to go look for this article that's cool. I've got too much on my plate right now and here I am doing a little work here as well... and ... find myself shooting the chit with you guys.)

Here's a weird recruiting bit I ran across. Recently, probably within the last 10 days, I ran across a link to an article that talked about signals recruits give out unconsciously that signal where they are headed. I skimmed over the first few sentences and moved on. As I recall, it was his contention that tweets that were hashtagged with a school is where that recruit was most likely to go. Copelands tweet ...

So, I decided to look at Copeland's timeline and this was posted recently. Now, it was a retweet.

What have I learned? UT has another method of cheating. They're giving two scholarships to some players.

Quay Walker has been tight-lipped recently, even with those close to him.

What's clear, though, is that this is a three-team race for the longtime Alabama commit.

Those three schools, according to the four-star linebacker's high school coach, are the Crimson Tide, Tennessee and Georgia.

"Just judging by the way he's been the past week, he seems to be a little bit more comfortable with things and he seems to be a little more (at ease)," said Brad Harber, Walker's high school coach. "With that said, I think that he's very close to knowing what school he wants to attend."

Though the Cordele, Georgia native remains committed to Alabama, the feeling for at least some familiar with his recruitment is that Tennessee is probably the favorite to land him at this point.

Helping the Vols is that Walker had a great relationship with Jeremy Pruitt when Pruitt was at Alabama, which Pruitt has continued to build on since taking over as Tennessee's head coach. In addition, Walker had pre-existing relationships with three other new Vols coaches, including defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer.

Sherrer was Walker's primary recruiter when he was at Georgia.

"Tennessee, to me, is that wild-card," Harber said. "Tennessee wasn't even really on the map at all, but you have all these guys that Quay's familiar with and now they're all at Tennessee."

Still, Alabama is hoping to keep Walker as part of its class.

Walker took an official visit to Alabama January 19. Outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi then visited Walker in Georgia last week and coach Nick Saban visited Walker in Georgia earlier this week.

According to Harber, it's still possible Walker could sign with the Tide.

"Given the fact that he has not decommitted from them or anything, I think they have a chance," Harber said. "It wouldn't surprise me for him to stick with his commitment to Alabama."

Though Walker took an official visit to Auburn last weekend, Harber doesn't think the Tigers are in the mix.

Walker is planning to visit Georgia this weekend, per Harber.

He will then announce his decision during a National Signing Day ceremony at his high school next Wednesday.

"Speaking on my end, I think all of those three (Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia), they're all good choices," Harber said. "And I think that he's going to make the right decision. Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, none of 'em would surprise me on February 7. None of 'em. I really do think it's that close, to be honest with you."

It's the grammar side coming out, bro.

The tweet about his offer from UT read, "Very blessed and honored to say I have received my 2nd scholarship offer from the University Of Tennessee." He's got two offers, one from Tennessee. But he wrote it as UT just gave him his second scholarship offer because the first one wasn't enough ... play on words coming from a demented mind.

Before I actually started work last night word was breaking that ITS was out of the picture. There's a site where you can find suggestions it was off the field issues. I loved the kids versatility. He's going to be a good one.

The class will still see two more defensive backs and I'm still hearing they may take three depending on how things fall. As mentioned look for Smith to be one. Surtain's story is a good one for NSD (especially if he commits to Bama on National TV.)

This also means things are looking good with Copeland.

And don't forget about Campbell. Bama isn't out of that one either.

SMH at this class of DB's coming in.

Not what I wanted to hear, because I'm with you on Taylor-Stewart. I'd want him #2 behind Surtain Jr. His size and speed are off the charts. Two 6'2 burners at the corner positions would have us in position to win two Championships during their years.

Note this though. natural cornerbacks, right? You want a guy that has "good ball skills" as well, right? That's the comparison between ITS and what the other guys bring to the class.

Five-star Alabama linebacker commitment Quay Walker of Crisp County High School in Cordele, Ga., posted on his Twitter account that he had a “GREAT” in-home visit Thursday night with new Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt.

Pruitt was accompanied on the visit by Vols defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer and co-defensive coordinator Chris Rumph, who also serves as Tennessee’s outside linebackers coach.

“Last in-home visit was GREAT @CoachJPruitt @UTCoachSherrer @CoachRumph GO VOLS!!! #GBO,” Walker tweeted.

The 6-foot-4, 236-pound Walker has been committed to Alabama since June but has taken official visits to Tennessee and Auburn within the past three weeks in addition to returning to Alabama on an official visit the weekend of Jan. 19. He’s scheduled to travel to Georgia this weekend on his final visit.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball points to Georgia and Tennessee as the favorites to land him, with the Bulldogs and Vols each getting 27 percent of the current predictions, 18 percent going to Alabama and 9 percent going to Florida State.

Walker is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 31 overall prospect and No. 2 outside linebacker in the 2018 class.

Nick Saban was expected in Pensacola, Fla. on Thursday to visit four-star receiver Jacob Copeland.

The Escambia product Tweeted on Thursday night a photo of himself with Saban and Tide assistants Mike Locksley and Josh Gattis at his home. It's Locksley who's taken over Copeland's recruitment from Alabama after Jeremy Pruitt left the staff to become head coach at Tennessee.

Great in home visit with the University of Alabama head coach and assistant coaches! #RollTide

“I think (Locksley taking over Copeland’s recruitment) it’s a great thing," Escambia head coach Mike Bennett told BamaOnLine last week. "Coach Locks is an awesome recruiter, awesome football coach. I’ve known Coach Locks since 2004, I think he’s a great coach. This is my opinion — I don’t know if you go to Alabama because of the coach, I think you go to Alabama because it’s Alabama. Bama has earned that right. Coach (Nick) Saban is there, he’s the mainstay. I think that’s what kids look at. They win championships.”

At 6-feet, 192 pounds, Copeland is rated the No. 12 receiver and the No. 62 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

The former Gators commit will choose between Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee on National Signing Day in the 1 p.m. CT hour on ESPN2.

Sorry, I was tracking and just laughing about the whole 2 scholarship thing.

I keep reading Campbell is very solid and has high potential, but I also hear he needs motivation at times and can dog it from time to time. Now that is something our coaches can work on, but I figured they'd like less of a project from an effort standpoint, because it's hard to beat those demons out of a person, but a go getter like was said that Coach Bryant went after is the pick every time. And kind of like you said, the difference between #30-47 prospects is razor thin, so wherever Campbell may be higher ranked, it ain't that much of a difference. Plus, loading up on more recruits from across the country can only help us look better to future recruits.
