šŸ€ Nate Oats has signed a new contract that will make him one of the top five compensated men’s basketball coaches in the country.

A poster on a Bama Reddit group mentioned Oats girlfriend a few weeks ago and got blasted. His post eventually was removed by moderators. Now it’s his fiancĆ©e. The new paychecks will be plenty to keep both families comfortable. The 30 year old is stepping into high cotton!

Well, I didn't know Oats had gotten divorced. It's unlikely he wasn't already in this relationship when she was working for him. No idea when Oats and wife separated ahead of the '23 divorce, although it's interesting her last twitter post was as the '21 season came to an end. They're all adults, although of varying ages.

I guess the plaid jacket really does harken back to a bygone era...

The girl works for the Mavericks now but was with the Tide’s men’s hoops program for several years. I typed her name in Google and the first result is on Alabama’s athletics site showing her as an employee for the men’s program. So she may be dual hatted. Maybe she bolted to negate any appearance of impropriety.

Oats signing a long-term contract like that likely means we're getting more NIL for him to work with. Doubt it'll be in range you see Kentucky or Duke will have, but enough to give Oats to build a roster fit for a championship run.

This man's earned every penny. We better not take it for granted and support the living shit out of him. We used to dream we'd just make the NCAAT. Now he's elevated the program to a point where we're not sweating it out in February, wondering what seeding we'll be, and the chances of the program winning the SEC.

Not saying he doesn't have flaws though. He's got to get the defense figured out. And the limitations inside have prevented him from competing against the likes of UConn, Duke, and now Michigan. And despite having won the conference regular season + SECT twice, it has been four seasons since Alabama won either. But despite those limitations, Alabama is a regular in the S16. To me, it's a matter of when - not if - he'll break through and get Alabama in the championship. His offense will likely get hot again like it did in '24 and just go on an absolute tear. But honestly, he's said on multiple occasions he's really wanting to bring a championship home. He'll need to get the versatility on offense that can withstand someone pushing the the team way off the 3-point line AND get the defense figured out.

Quite frankly, I was happy about how that went down. Not the divorce, but how little coverage there was about the split. There have been concerted efforts, in all the programs, to keep things "in house." This news was as "out of the house" as the toilet was 150 years ago. But no one noticed. With her previous health issues I thought we'd hear more about the split: today's media, ya know?

Avery Johnson "hired" her in 2017. She started with the B-ball program in 2015 while she was still in school as a coordinator for operations. (I don't know if this was a paid position, an internship, or what.) Officially, she got the DBO title in '17. She's been with the Dallas organization for almost four years now.

The lady has an impressive CV. She was directing operations for a charity before she started UA: Nancy Lieberman's group.

I am glad we locked him up long term. I feel this is a good move for the basketball program. I am glad we did not let him "talk with the pretty girls" and went ahead and got him an extension. Maybe, eventually, we can get a new coliseum for him too.

He definitely kept it in house...

Today's media - any time they want to elevate someone - or elevate sympathy for them - they hang a qualifier on them. The woman becomes a mother, the middle/older woman becomes grandmother, or veteran, cancer survivor, something unrelated to the story is added.

But maybe it's not just today's media. Old joke, modified for many sports/teams - Two boys are playing outside in Huntsville when one is attacked by a rabid Rottweiler. Thinking quicky, the other boy pulls a picket from a fence, wedges it down the dog's collar and twists, breaking the dog's neck. A reporter who was strolling by sees the incident, and rushes over to interview the boy. "Young Alabama Fan Saves Friend from Vicious Animal", he starts to write in his notebook. "But I'm not an Alabama fan", the little hero replied. "Sorry, since we are in north Alabama, I just assumed you were", said the reporter. "Tennessee Fan Recues Friend From Horrific Attack", he continued writing in his notebook. "I'm not a Tennessee fan either", the boy said. "I assumed everyone in north Alabama was either for Alabama or Tennessee. What team do you root for?" the reporter asked. "I'm an Auburn fan", the child replied. The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes, "Little Auburn Bastard Kills Beloved Family Pet!"

Re: Oats and his divorce and such, as mentioned above, they wanted to keep it kinda quiet for a bit. My understanding is, the way they filed the papers made it really difficult for the records to be pulled too, which was smart. I assume for the kids' sake they wanted to keep it out of the media and such until things settled down, but that's just a guess.

A few may remember (@bamafan4ever especially) back when Oats was up for the Kentucky job, I made a vague reference to a wild card situation that might override everything else and give him reason to leave for a start fresh. Here is the post (with a follow up on the next page). That was in reference to the marriage issues and some concern by some at the time that Oats might take the Kentucky job as more of a personal life reset than a professional one. Thankfully, for UA and for us, some things got figured out on the personal side and his relationship with Bryne and UA was so strong on the professional side, that he ultimately decided to stay (which was always the most likely outcome, IMO).

But, the whole divorce thing was never a big secret around town. And at some points, Oats himself didn't even try to hide it, but for whatever reason, it just never got out in the media, or even on social media. Then on Friday, Oats went ahead and controlled the narrative a bit and put it out there himself on a podcast (by announcing the engagement), going into a holiday weekend while all the attention was on the Final Four. A classic PR play, right out of UA's playbook.
