🏈 Nate Boyer got a scholarship to play at Texas

Odd, he enlisted from Texas, in the military - which means...he can go to any state school TUITION FREE.

They just said he got a scholarship to play at Texas....why did Texas use a scholarship on him if he gets to go to school for free.

I'm curious about this.

He was going to count against the 85 regardless of whether he was getting free tuition or he wasn't. If they wanted to save a little money, they could have. At Texas, do they think of things like a few thousand in the Ath. Dept.? I have my doubts.

Yeah, not taking anything away from him, just more a question of why they would use him against the 85. For some reason, I'm thinking he'd just be a walk on.

If they didn't offer him a scholly, and he didn't play, he'd be just like a walk-on.

As soon as he stepped on the field under these circumstances, even though his money for school isn't coming from an athletic scholarship, he'd still count against the 85. In a sense it's no different than a kid on academic scholly. Or a kid under the Bryant Scholly in the past.

That said, if he doesn't play next season, they could have used his scholly towards someone else. If he does...
