🏈 My main disappointment with the season

We have not gotten better from the beginning of the season to now. Coach Saban nails it when talking about consistency or lack of it in this case.

All I asked for at the beginning of the year was to get better as the season progressed. For whatever reason that hasn't happened. I know the obvious reasons (lack of depth, lack of talent, etc...). I also assume there is much more to it than I know.

I'm very disappointed that "the process" hasn't produced more immediate results, but I also understand what it entails and where it is leading us. I'm patient and would think that all of us here are. If not, you could have found another team to cheer for during this tough decade for the Tide.

Anyway, I'll start next season just the same as I have every year....hoping and wishing for improvement throughout the season. That's when we'll be back. Oh, and a little luck along the way as well (i.e. LSU style)...seems we're way overdue for that as well.

Bet you felt better after the Arky and Tennessee wins. Don't let this one "unexpected" loss undo the "immediate results" that have taken place.

Sounds like a premature summary there Delta. Two games left. Let's see what happens.

Roll Tide. :)

I may have mentioned this here on another thread...don't know.

This season so far has brought something to mind...and it's from the Bible. (stay away alpha) Somewhere it talks about moving from plateau to plateau.

Take that in this context. We've shown improvement, then leveled off. Then more improvement, and leveled off. Then?

3 wins, 2 losses. 3 wins, 2 losses. Next few weeks?

This season mirrors what his first season was at LSU. With the exception of not losing to a team like UAB.

Exactly. We beat the hell out of UT people!!! We may yet do the same to Auburn. We have a chance to add 3 more wins to the season. This is what most were expecting this season or better. Anyhoo, Roll Tide. Next year will be a good one. 8)

Well, I have seen a team that has played 4 quarters and hasn't given up at the end like they were prone to in the last 4 seasons.

I have seen a team get stronger and develop more stamina as the season has progressed.

Until the suspensions, I have seen the OL's blocking seem to improving on pass and run blocking from game to game.

I have seen special teams improve over last year and seem to get better every week.

We have the SEC leader in receiving yards (DJ Hall - 886) and the SEC leader in interceptions (R Johnson - 6).

Leigh Tiffin has improved markedly over the course of the season and almost seems to be a guarantee now.

The most important change is that we have had only 47 penalties all year! That is lowest in the SEC if anyone's keeping count. If anyone can't see the improvement of discipline from Alabama (which comes from the coaching staff, I might add), you might want to widen your view of the team a little. The coaches can't improve talent, but just seeing the discipline the have instilled in the players speaks volumes. Hell, we only had 1 penalty for 5 yards Saturday!

Seriously, the 24 Hour Rule has taken affect. Time to move on. This PROGRAM is improving whether we see it or not. Considering the lack of talent Shula left us with, I am pretty happy with what we have done up to this point.

Well according to that I'll be real happy come end of season. :D

Let me qualify my above statement please. We beat Auburn, and that does it for me. Season is considered a success! 8)

My husband joked with me before the game Sat. to watch out for State. He jokingly said he thought they'd beat us (wish that joke hadn't come true). Anyway, I told him and told BamaAlum later that I'd take a State loss in a heart beat if we'd just beat Auburn. I still stand by that.

I totally agree.

I do try to believe the the old adage, "There's always room for improvement," but at the same time there comes a point when thresholds are met in terms of tapping or achieving potentials based on one's God-given talents and abilities.

Overall as a team, improvements have been made as moreno has stated. Still, for some of the lesser talented players, it appears thresholds have been reached and really show against opponents of greater ability. About the only way to overcome this or at least try to counter the talent gap is to have a better game plan, to be able to execute it consistently, and to be in better physical condition than one's opponent.

A regular horse cannot outrun a thoroughbred no matter how much desire is there to win the race. I'm not suggesting that MSU has reached Secretariat status but their defense definitely had us outmanned on the LOS.

I agree with some of the others, we HAVE shown improvement throughout the year. I almost beat the #1 team in the country, and would have if not for just 1-2 plays, and we were only 1-2 plays from beating Miss St, FL ST, and Georgia. We could just as easily be looking at an undefeated season as we are a 4 loss season. And that is all due to Saban, he has coached this team how to play for 4 quarters, something that Shula NEVER even spoke to them about obviously. He has instilled confidence - just look at Tiffin, patience and discipline - look at our penalties, and a few losses does not a bad team make.

And we have definitely improved from last year to this year, and I can see us only getting better, look at Saban's top 3 recruiting class (as of now on Rivals). Something to look forward to for next year and the years to come!!! Roll Tide!

I'll stick by my standard statement. I said at the begining of the season anything over 7 wins would be gravy. I'll admit going into the Georgia game I thought we might have a shot to be way better than expected. After that loss I said that I will go back to the original mentality of anything over 7 wins would be gravy. I honestly thought we should/would have beat Miss St, but whatever. We have fielded a way better team this year than what we have seen in years past and I'm excited about our future. A statement I have not been able to make in a long time!

LBS' 2 cents is that I don't see a Shula team going toe to toe with the #1 team in the country like we did with LSU, or a surging Georgia team, or slobber-knocking Tennessee.

Further more, I don't see Shula bring the sense of euphoric optimism about the future that Saban brings. Where would Shula have this program in three years? What about Saban?

If the other SEC schools chose our coach, would they have taken Saban to play against or Shula?

Heck, I felt better after the LSU loss than I did Saturday. But, as y'all say, it's over, it's done, can't change a dang thang. We need to go out and beat the Warbirds . . . wherever they're from.

I'll say something that Saban might say. "You can't measure a teams progress purely by wins and losses"

Like everyone else, this loss hurt me more than the LSU loss but I love the competitiveness, attitude and direction of my beloved Tide.

I am very skeptical about coaches, but the more I hear Saban, the more I love this guy. He is the absolute best coach in college football. He completely understands every aspect of the game. From preparation of the team (when yell and when to coddle), evaluation of current talent...future talent and how to teach each individual the game.

We will be back on top soon.
