🏈 MSU plans to limit after contact yards for DH

It would be interesting to see how many yards we've actually gained on the Jet sweep... I think we've actually used it well. Helps to get the ball on the perimeter and makes the DB's and LB play the WR coming across the formation... which later on tends to open up some better running lanes for Henry. We may only get 2 or 3 yards average on the Jet Sweep, but I think its' a pretty critical play to o9pen up some room in the middle of the line for Henry so I'm fine with us running it. The only think I wish was that the WR would learn to cut back better... they either cut back too late or slip and fall when they try to cut back...
I agree that it helps set things up. I think one of the times we ran it Stewart looked like he was about to pass, but then tucked it and ran for a couple of yards.

I was just mentioning it because it counts as a pass play, and thus inflates Cokers completion percentage. Through in the bubble screens and you damn right he should be at 71%.... anything less would be bench riding numbers.

I would imagine if you only looked at passes that were 5+ yards he would be middle of the pack in completion percentage.

He's 17th in the nation in completion % but is tied for 54th in the nation in yards per attempt, so that is probably pretty close. Only 35% of completions were 15 yds or more with 17 Tds to 8 INTs. Coming in 45th in QBR at 139.41.

In contrast, 2 x walk-on Mayfield had a 2012 AJ type of season finishing 7th in the nation in completion % and is 2nd in the nation in yards per attempt. 48% of completions were 15 yds or more with 35 Tds to only 5 INTs. Coming in 2nd in QBR at 178.86.

I really like Coker and am no way highlighting Mayfield to bash Coker, as I think he is a great team leader. But he is the least impactful performer that CNS has had at Bama. I hope to see BB mature in this offense and take advantage of all the tools and talent available to him at Bama. If he does, the supporting cast he'll have should guarantee he'll be putting up Mayfield-esque and '12 AJ type numbers regularly.

Completely agree. Love Coker to death, but you have realize that the high completion percentage and QBR are slightly inflated due to very easy passes (screens, jet sweeps).

He still gets it done. Does what is asked. And wins games. Let's hope he continues this trend.

I think we can give Kiffin some props here as well. He isn't trying to make Coker the next Blake Sims, but rather using his strengths to his full advantage. I believe most in here will agree that Saban simply wanted a QB to "not lose a game" just manage it. Saban knew that we would have an outstanding defense and with above average special teams, we just needed a guy to make good decisions and not turn it over.

MSU might want to limit DH's long runs on 3Rd down and long. When faced in 3rd and 7-9 yard scenarios, DH has 4 carries for 104 yards- an average of 26 YPR. On 3Rd and 10, DH has 50 yards on 8 attempts. Compare that for when he's faced with 3rd and 1 situations, he has 51 rush yards on 22 attempts.

When in the red zone, this is where DH does most of his damage. 15 rushing TDs when inside the 20. Pretty good. Michigan State has given up 14 total rushing TDs on the year, and opponents are scoring 84% of the time when on the red zone against their D.

1. That press conf. was extremely respectful of Alabama and of Derrick Henry. I eman, what did you really want toe guy to say? "Well, we know he's the best, better than anyone weve faced so far. we probably cant do shit to stop him , so we're just gonna roll over and play dead."
2. Yes I would agree, everyone does have a plan until they get hit...

IMO- That Jet sweep is there to keep the D honest and give them something else to have to account for. It make players on the edges have to stay home instead of rush in...
It's more of a strategy than it is a tactic.

I'm waiting for CLK to run the triple pistol that Arky St broke out in their bowl game.. oops, there I go giving away secrets.. shhhh

"MSU LB Jon Reschke promises to hit Alabama's Derrick Henry 'harder than we've hit anyone else' "

B/R headline this morning

Well, technically it's true if you translate their hardest hit to a collision. It's a matter of physics with some combination of mass, change in velocity and time. HTWDH with a full head of steam colliding with the normal or higher effort exerted by Sparty D to tackle him will most likely = their hardest "hit" of the year.

This. It also opens the passing game up. Case in point, the fake sweep action to Stewart in the IB that froze the D momentarily, and Jake hits Ridley for a bomb down inside the 5.

My quoae was in ref to you giving away the secret game plan...Saban is pissed ...

Wouldn't it be great to see them shaken in their game plan confidence early ?
Play action to Henry right side, pump fake to Ridley and hit our TE (which ever one starts) on a crossing route for a big gain.
I just think when we do start running, we should punch them in the mouth with a downhill attack. Nothing cute, just brute force! Mix in play action to back them off a bit, and punch them some more! Maybe, we fake the jet sweep a few times because you know they'll be looking for it.
ROLL TIDE!!!!!

Alabama run a jet sweep? Are you sure they'll be looking for it? I suspect they'll have 8 to 9 in the box to stop HTWDH so yeah, play action pass to the T E until they stop it the have HTWDH punch them in the mouth good and hard.
