ā€˜Most loved college football teams by state’ infographic is SEC-rich

TicketCity, a leading ticket broker and online marketplace, recently dropped this infographic using social metrics, Google analytics and ticket pricing data to determine which college football teams were the most loved in each state.

An eight-loss season hasn’t stopped Gator fans from owning Florida despite the Seminoles’ 2013 national championship. And the Aggies, thanks to Kevin Sumlin, have taken over Texas.

California's surprised me .. I guess I always figured Cal or UCLA had more fans .. But maybe the UC thing creates a split, and allows USC to take over?

Texas also surprised .. I figured it would be, ya know, Texas.

I see Alabama has its priorities straight.

Yeah, but a lotta them thar voters iz the gumpin' kind. They ain't go to no Bammer. They'ze just a bunch rednecks who think they're better than the rest of us. They ain't got fambly like we do. I hate them bammers!

This must be Mack Brown's last ditch effort to embarrass all the Longhorns again. And apparently no one in Oklahoma is man enough to pull for the right team.

With it being College Colors Day, I'm looking and counting my classes as they come in. The numbers show a 4 to 1 lead BAMA over the Barn! The faculty here is screwed up but I always GUMP!!

Its true, there are more Aggies wearing their colors these days, but they were always a proud group regardless of how many games they've won or lost.

Considering Texas has been the number one in income for ~10 years straight, I don't know how meaningful their infographic is based on their search criteria (see below).

Texas A&M has slowly been rising up the list, but they aren't close to Texas at this point...but they'll get there I'm sure. They have the fan base.

Wondering how we compiled these numbers? To determine which college football team is the most popular in each state, we factored in four pieces of data for all Division I football teams (FBS and FCS). The first two data points were culled from social media; the number of Facebook fans and Twitter followers that each football team’s official page has. Next, we used Google Tools to pull the monthly average number of searches conducted for each team by users in that team’s state. Lastly, we used the median price of tickets on the secondary market for the upcoming season. As the price of tickets is a strong indicator of demand, we weighed that factor heavier than the other three. We then indexed the data points and ranked the teams accordingly.

USC was the popular choice for years under Pete Carroll.

Your classes? Where do you teach? Keep gumpin!!! I gump here at SU, I've got my Bama pennant up loud and proud over my desk, and I already get comments about how it needs to be orange haha.

This marks year number 21 for me @PhillyGirl! I had great professors at UA. Dr. Archie Wade and Dr. Jim Stillwell were my favorites! I was originally a business major and all it took to change my mind was a business law class. I wanted a change and stay involved with athletics while I was on the team. Sports medicine, athletic training, or PE? Parents were educators, so it was an easy decision.
