| FTBL Most Important: What's on The Menu for Kickoff?

I've had both Billy's and Aquila's and both are excellent. We usually end up at Fresh Seafood Distributors (most generic seafood market name ever) because of convenience... It's the last stop we make on the way home. Never had meat from Mosley's, but I'm familiar with them and heard they're excellent. I've just been getting stuff from Farm Fresh for so long that it's my go-to. Their fresh ground sausage, smoked sausage, and 32 oz. sirloins are must gets on every trip down there.

I don't miss a lot of things about living down there, but I sure miss the seafood, and yes, the fundraising fish frys! The only good fish fry I've been to around here is when @It Takes Eleven did one at the RTB tailgate on A-Day years ago!

Boy, that was a few years ago. Those were crappie filets from the Coosa. Unfortunately, I’m a poor substitute for the fisherman my Dad was. He would enter tournaments on Logan Martin, pay a double entry fee, fish by himself with one rod and his homemade jigs, and win it all, one time I believe he won $5,000.

Regarding sausage: we had a house full at the lake this past weekend, I grilled five pounds of Conecuh- hickory smoked, black pepper, hot and spicy - and three pounds of Their bacon.

A few months ago, my son texted me to say “it may be heresy, but Royal Sausage out of Pell City gives Conecuh a run for their money”. I said that’s like arguing over dreamland and archibald’s - it’s all Alabama, baby.

I remember it was delicious, stole the show that day. I'm not real good at catching the fish, but I excel at eating them.

Tried Royal for the first time about a year ago. It makes for a good substitute if Conecuh can't be procured. Also, changing sausage gears a bit, but I discovered Zummo boudin a couple years ago, and if you don't have a cajun market nearby to get the better stuff, it's actually quite good. Walmart and Winn Dixie sell it around here. Zummo makes a lot of other products, but the basic boudin is all I've ever seen or had.

Yeah, it's actually a good bit cheaper, too. My mom uses it in her turnip green soup, likes the degree of flavor and smokiness over Conecuh for just that recipe. Royal started up about 25 years or so ago, and a local Pell City banker made them the loan to get started. In his prior career, the banker hired me over 33 years ago. He was also a letterman at Bama, @TerryP - in golf. Small world.

yea Aquila is a half a mile from Billy's Both are great. I've been going to Billy's so long I can't change.I know their whole Family. They donate prepared mullet for our Church fish fry.
I'll be down there near the end of next month....maybe, the beach house we rent didn't get any damage, but they're still without power, we go through FM Properties, they said to check back next week.... if it's do-able, I'll check out Billy's, thanks.
